Icon5 Deposit for the waitlist?

Could anyone share their experience to deal with ADs in NYC recently? Especially after the store being closed due to COVID-19.

One of the SA recently told me that I need to pay $500 deposit if I want to be on the 'waitlist' not guarantee to purchase. This is first time to be heard, so, I'm just wondering pay deposit to be listed is something normal that NYC ADs do.

Thank you in advance.

$500 just to be on a waiting list without any guarantee? LoL.

Seems like they are desperate for some cash influx.

I would decline this.

Bought 14 Rolex watches over 40 years from 8 different ADs, never heard this one...

Was in London Feb this year and some of the AD had told me that to book a Rolex deposit to be made HOWEVER for now they were not taking any orders for now for Blue SD or Sub as waiting period is very long...LOL

Got my black sub with date within 1 month of booking from AD in Switzerland..

No watch readily available? Then no money to hand over, deposit or not. Easy as that Be patient, and find another SA or AD to get what you want.

I guess the ADs can do this to only put real buyers on their waitlists, but there are a lot of threads on the reality of AD waitlists. They may be receiving a lot of inquires now and they are just trying to sort it all out. I see nothing wrong with this practice if there is a full refund if you decide after a reasonable time to leave the list.

If you don't have prior relationship

If you really want the watch

If it is completely refundable

Then I would do it. It is only 500, not like 5000. Shows that you are serious, might help you move up the 'list'.

Fwiw, I never paid a deposit for a watch. But with no prior relationship, why not.

With the economy, lots of people will be saying no when offered.

Not new, I did that in 1991 for a zenith Daytona... I’m still waiting.

If I was serious and would have it within a reasonable amount of time (<1yr) I would do it. With no guarantee, that's crazy.

Practices like this have really turned me off from ADs.

I would never put $500 to be on a waitlist with no guarantee of delivery. If SA said 6 months, then I’d definitely consider doing it. You have to have some kind of timeframe and guaranteed refund if not delivered within that time frame.

When looking for my first Rolex most ADs I called were happy to put me on a list. Only one asked for a deposit, £1,000 at the time, with no guarantees. I declined.

Only ever paid holding deposits when getting the call to say my watch is in and I will be dropping by later in the week to collect.
