What’s Your Dress Watch?
I have to say, I was perplexed by how provocative the responses were in the “Wearing a Sub with a suit - yes or no?” thread by fellow TRF member Rolex50.
The question was posed: “I know it’s a personal preference, and I suspect that I’ll know the overall position of most on this forum, but I’d still be interested to hear everyone’s comments about the issue of whether one should wear a sub with a suit. Thanks.” There was really a split jury and many felt very strongly against wearing a Sub, so for that reason I have to ask: If you’re putting on a suit which watch do you consider your “dress watch?” I’m curious to know both Rolex and non-Rolex opinions here since I’m currently torn between potentially buying a DD vs. a dress watch from either JLC, A. Lange, PP or F.P. Journe. I appreciate the feedback and wrist shots are strongly encouraged! |

I’ve done my 214270 with a suit, and it works ok, but my SARB035 is serving as my dress watch right now. Picked up a nice Veblenist strap for it and IMO it kills. I’ve got my eye on a Reverso for my next watch, which will take care of things on the dress end.

Suit for work? I think the sub would do just fine as long as it fits under the cuff.
For a black tie event, I feel a thin leather dress watch would look more matching if you really want to wear a watch. |

I have a few "dress" watches, all of which are currently tucked away in the bank safe until this pandemic is over, and was only able to dig this pic up on my new phone. To be honest, I am happy wearing any one of them with a T shirt and shorts, and have zero issue with wearing a SS sport watch with a suit and tie.

woah couple beauties there.
for me depends on the occasion. i will usually either wear my IWC 371447, s/s with black dial or my JLC 147.2.05s, rose gold with silver dial. but i've worn a panerai 292 also. and hopefully i'll have an incoming A. Lange 115.031, rose gold with black dial in the next few weeks. i always look for reasons to wear different watches - it's a sickness |
