Rolex Explorer II 1655 Authentication. Experts inquire within.

Hello everyone!

Just wanting some opinions on a Rolex Explorer II 1655 I am considering purchasing.

Wondering whether it's the real McCoy, or fake.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matthew

Not as of yet, only got these to go off so far. What should I be looking for between the lugs?

Serial number should be on the case between the lugs

Need to be able to see the dial text. Odd that the seller has obscured the text with the hands to the maximum extent possible... No point looking at any other aspect of the watch without clear photos of the dial.

Place doesn't sell watches, which could explain it.

Looks ok to me, bezel is correct, hands are correct, no red flags on the dial so far.
Case looks correct for a mk1
Some better pictures would be nice to be 100% sure.
How much they asking for this?
Here’s a pic of my mk1 ...

It's a legitimate early series 1655. Appears to be a very nice original example.

It’s complicated due to the quality of the first pic. For a really close look one needs sharper pictures.

The question I’d ask is why you’re concerned about it being authentic?

Is it because the seller can’t be trusted?

If it’s all correct and a fair price, then you have a great opportunity there.

I would definitely want high resolution photos. The lume is so clean, untextured, and matchy-matchy without any imperfections. Not a single flaw or chip or color variation on the paint on the hands. Bright orange 24-hour hand. Not impossible, but really unusual.

Seller is a small auction house mainly dealing in furniture/estate clearances and it was priced in a no reserve. Pretty sure they don't know what they have. Not wanting to raise too much attention incase they do work it out haha.

Small auction in Australia that mainly deals in furniture/estate sales. Was posted at a no reserve, not wanting to tip them off to the value etc.

Agree, I’m sure they have google .
I was offered one about 10 years ago that turned out to be a modded GMT, 1655 had taken off in price whilst GMT’s were still relatively cheap then hence the mod. The watch looked mint to me so I was disappointed when RSC advised me to stay away.

Then I would go in person for a review of several items, the watch included. Then you’re not drawing too much attention to the watch. ...But...
Like others have said, they likely have experienced people they can call about any Rolex in an estate sale. They may be small but don’t assume they’re stupid.

If it is too far to travel, ask for clearer pictures via email. Perhaps include examples of what you want using photo’s off Google.

But if they are truly hapless, the odds of getting pics between the lugs, or with the caseback off, are unlikely. So you’d be on your own bidding for it.

Last thought: review their policies closely about refunds for items that are fake. They should have one since faking antique furniture is often done.
