Polish or not to polish a Royal Oak off Shore

Hello guys. I would like to know the opinion of someone who have had his watch polished with the official AP service. On the internet like 80% of the people say it will damage the geometry and you will lose the sharp edges. I agree if that is to be done by an unskilled watchmaker but with the official AP service? Thanks

Even when done by AP, polishing should be done sparingly. This has been covered many times on here, and very recently linked to this article, which was written by someone who had his watch serviced and polished by AP:

Royal Oak Factory Service/Polish

I'll point out this passage in particular, but the whole article is a good read:

"AP advises that a timepiece’s case, bezel, and bracelet can usually only be refinished up to five times through the watch’s life. (Depending on the thickness of the part and how much material is removed each time)

So for those of you looking to refinish your watch every time, it’s serviced, keep in mind this can reduce the lifespan of your watch. Refinishing is an invasive process that takes metal away in return for restoring the luster of a watch."

A bezel, btw, can be replaced. So that's an option if it's repolished too much.

Personally, I haven't had my RO polished yet, and will likely avoid it as much as possible, but will consider it maybe 10 or 12 years from now during an AP service, depending on how the watch is looking. Right now, it's pretty perfect (worn mostly on special occasions, and sometimes just because).

Awesome article. Thanks for posting. APSC Clearwater is among the very best in the business. Always a pleasure to deal with and take great pride in their work.

I had a steel offshore bezel done. Because one side had a deeper scratch they had tried to take that out and it ended up not being symmetric. The result was so poor that I ended up getting a new bezel.
If you are going to polish I would request for symmetry above all else even if that means all scratches cannot be removed entirely.

The amount of hand work involved is incredible. They allowed me to have a go refinishing one of their practice bezels when I visited a couple of years ago.

Great facility & skilled craftsmen.
