Not a fan of either, but would opt for AP in this showdown.

A Datejust .

At least it's not delicate, and you can do everything with a watch without your heart stopping.

39mm Royal Oaks have the best proportions Imo. Of the Royal Oaks I mean. Nautilus is also cool. I don't care how clichéd they're going. Royal Oak to be 'different' I guess?

I believe that either watch is perfectly capable of being ridden hard.
They will show some scars... owner just has to get over it.

APs aren't as delicate as people make them seem

lol 50m is more than enough, i can see the argument for not taking an AP into the pool/beach because of its finish but you're not gonna be swimming in anything deeper than 10 feet realistically...

Sadly that is not conclusive. Opinions are consistently split.

I'm not saying I can't resist being in the pool/beach, I mean the crowns on both the RO and the Nautilus don't give me much confidence. You start manipulating those crowns and in your subconscious you think that it will not resist, although the reality is different and if it does.

I owned the 15202 and traded it for the 5711.

Probably the 15202 is the better watch, but the non quick set date was too much of a pain for me.

The crown is flimsy and setting the date takes too long.

If you'll wear everyday or put on a winder it might be a good idea.

I have a very slight preference for the Nautilus case, but a huge preference for the RO's bracelet. That means personally, for me, I prefer the Jumbo.

I'd be surprised if you get a runaway winner on this one. Make no mistake, they're both beautiful and iconic watches.

I honestly never understood the 5711 hype. To be fair I’ve never handled one but recently got the AP and absolutely love it!

5711 because i want a second hand.

If it were 5711 vs 15400, i would call it a tie.

I have a 15202 and a 5712. If I could only keep one I would be hard pressed to make a decision. Horologically speaking, I think the 15202 is a “better” watch due to the movement, dial, and it was the first. Also, the production numbers are significantly different, with far more Nautilus being manufactured.

Fratello did a great write up comparing the two:
