Anyone have a Pocket Watch Repeater?

I'm considering one that is listed on the bay, which looks quite nice and has a video demo'ing the functions.

While playing the video of the watch chiming on Youtube my wife came in and told me to turn it down - so the noise is already annoying to her, haha.

Couple of questions:

Is there someone stateside that is known for servicing repeater pocketwatches?

Anything to keep in mind - other than annoying people around you?

Do they generally keep bad time? At least with regards to modern watches.

I'm not talking fusee chain drive watch, I know they only keep fusee time.

Appreciate any feedback. And if you have any I would love to see them!

I don't own one, but am Interested in adding one to the collection as well, and would definitely appreciate finding a reliable source in the USA to repair them when needed.

Le Phare and Le Coultre are the 2 most common repeaters of decent quality.
Both usually made the movements for other brands. The dials are very seldom signed by them. Le Coultre would still sign them under the hammer, however.

There are quarter hour, 10 minute, 5 minute and minute repeaters. Increasing in price with each step.

Repeaters are about the most expensive watch you can get fixed. And alot of repairman do not have the qualifications to repair them.

Never ever, set the time counterclockwise with a repeater. I am not sure houw, but it screws them up, and you will have a repair bill to show for it.

Another thing to be aware of, especially if you are buying off the internet, a lot of the Swiss gold cases are paper thin, and can crease pretty easy. Something that is a little difficult to pick up by looking at photos.
