Would you trade a 2008 14060M for a new Submariner?

My local Rolex dealer is working up an offer to exchange my 2008 14060M for a new Submariner. I would pay the difference between his offer and retail on a new Sub.

I’m thinking about it but would appreciate your opinion!

Thanks

what's the difference you have to pay? I'd keep the 14060m if it's a set

Date or no date. If the latter I wouldn’t do the swap. I fact thinking about it I wouldn’t do the swap. Other than a newer watch I don’t see what you are gaining. Unless it’s for a LV.

Never. I'd take the 14060M over any 6 digit reference, it is perfect Rolex design IMO.

I'd keep the 14060M.

Love the older references.

That said, I do enjoy the latest models. But if at all possible, I wouldn't trade an older reference to get one.

Not a chance that I’d make that trade.

It is really a personal choice, depends what you like but I would keep the 14060m. Keep in mind that the four liners 14060m (yours I believe is one since it is from 2008 and it with engraved rehaut) are quite rare as they were produced in a limited production run before being discontinued.

You left out a key piece of information. What is the $$ difference the dealer is asking?

Try it on before you decide, the 5 and 6 digit subs wear very differently.

Given market prices, does the difference work that way around?

I personally would go for it (subject to the amount of cash you need to put in). Unlike some people I do like new maxi case

The dealer hasn’t got back yet. But my guess is about $1800 & taxes for a no-date.

Since it’s a 4-liner with an engraved rehaut plus box, booklets and warranty card I’m going to go with the consensus, i.e., no. That was my gut in the first place but I figured this group would provide some good feedback.

Thanks!!

When I hear back I will update the thread.

Funny how you omitted the exact trade-in value of the old watch and the exact cost of the new watch.

Just sayin'...

Guessing an $1,800 difference while waiting for an official offer is not an exact number.

A no date Sub costs about $8,000 and the trade-in value of a 2008 Sub is between $4k to $5k so I see a price difference of at least $3k plus tax.

I'm "guessing" you spoke to a Salesman and he lowballed an offer to keep you from looking elsewhere while he checks with the owner of the company for a real number.

Pros and Cons to both. I prefer the 5 digit version. Try on the new one. Old one more subdued, new one more bling. Old one light and very easy to wear. NEW one leans a bit heavy for me. Wrist size , your overall build my determine which version suits your personality and looks better.

They are completely different watches in how they feel, wear and emotionally pull you.

Funny, I've been thinking about doing the exact opposite...trading my 2019 ND Sub for a 4 liner 14060M. I bought mine from an AD in August and still haven't gotten use to the heft of the new model. Dont get me wrong, it's a beautiful watch but just feels too heavy on the wrist to wear everyday. My Speedy has become my daily driver. Oh and adding a picture of the Sub for good measure :)

Good information and correct that I spoke to the salesman. You are also correct that he said he needed to check with his boss.

an OK deal, although getting a brand new sub at retail is cool. I might bite closer to $1k + tax. Are you paying full tax on the sub or just tax on the difference?

I would not trade or sell the 4 liner 14060A. Classic Sub and quite rare.

No I would not do it keep your classic, wait until the new Sub is released by one of those if you like it.

Been there done that. I traded my 14060m two liner in for a new 114060 in Nov.'17. I started missing my old one and found a one owmer 14060m random 4 liner last August and been thinking of selling the 114060 but can't seem to commit. I really like them both but if I could only have one it would be the 14060m.
