Are Rolex sport model prices set to come down?
Hi,
Heard from a few people that Rolex are going to start allocating more pieces to AD’s therefore bringing down grey market prices and making certain sports pieces more attainable.. any truth in this? I planned to buy a new air king 116900 from watches of Switzerland and hopefully get my name on the list for a sub black bezel or “hulk”. Does this seem likely? I’m new to the watch game so any help appreciated |

No, that would be a rumor.

Yes, my dealer just got a shipment today of 100 Ceramic Daytona’s. 10% off MSRP. I bought one of each color, he has 98 left if you want one.

Unless they've ramped up production several fold and expanded facilities how is this proposed to happen? By giving the Datejusts a rest and focusing entirely on SS Subs, GMTs, Daytonas and blue Skydwellers?

No, this is not true.
If anything, the opposite may be true this year and there may be less watches. |

Demand would probably swallow however many extra units anyway. No, a price reduction of any significance won't be brought about like that. Even how things were a month or two ago didn't put a dent in it for long. Imo you should look to that as an example of what could possibly do it. A few extra SS arriving at each AD is going to do FA.

Sounds like wishful thinking but anything is possible, including prices going up higher

My AD told me yesterday they could receive 300 SS Daytonas tomorrow and they would be gone in less than a minute.
Even if there's an increase in allocation, it will not even begin to make a dent in waiting lists nor prices. |

Production has been reduced this year due to shutdowns. IMO more than likely Rolex does an extremely slow trickle of SS Professionals going forward with the economy where it is globally. Probably will be a push and prices stay near the same as today.

Well, a Harvard study indicated higher income folks spending is still significantly lower compared to precovid. The wealthiest 25% of Americans account for 2/3 of the total decline in spending since January. So, yes it may, but depends on how much the gray market can hold out.

I think trying to get a Hulk with either or both of these two purchases alone isn't likely. Particularly outside of the US. A Sub... Put it this way, the AD now knows your face, but unlikely to remember your name (so there's a chance, but it's small). |

Also, I find the term ‘watch game’ to be amusing. What does it really mean?

Yes Rolex allocated more pieces to some AD's but closed several AD's along the way. Gray market prices going down means loss of value retention, loss of value retention means discounts at the AD which won't happen any time soon. Yes It does seem likely that you could get your name on the list for the AK, Sub LN, and Sub LV. No one knows for sure what stock will come in and how the shop will choose to distribute it.

Grim times at the moment and I hate to say it (as I wouldn't do it personally) but grey is the only way you are likely to get a Hulk.... A black Sub, not sure in the UK but still better off paying the grey premium than buying an Ari King. |

I’ve had people ask me if I’m still in the watch game lol. If by “watch game” they mean buy watches and sell for a loss then yes, i am still currently in the game. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

It will all be about demand. At the moment it seems like demand is still high.
At this stage nobody really knows. The UK has been propped up by furlough payments and government bailouts to businesses. Once those stop then the true impact on demand will be known. As things are right now though I think many back in Blighty just go about their business thinking everything is rosie, so demand remains high. Best advice is to keep trying with a local AD. If it doesn't work either move on or pay a premium. Air Kings shouldn't be too difficult to get. |

I asked a local AD about getting a Deepsea JC and a Root Beer. I got quoted 2 weeks to 1 month.
I know they aren't the hottest watches but pre-Corona if I had asked that I'd have been asked about my purchase history and then quoted some ludicrous long waiting period or some potential bundle deal. I do see the watches becoming easier to get but prices aren't going to tank and the super hot models will continue to sell over retail. |
