Rolex Sub Marinar 16610 Clasp
Hi,
I am the UK (Hampshire) and have a 16610 date sub that I brought in 2004 for £2,400 its been through 2 full services but the bracelet is an original. The folding safety lock clasp is broken the pin has sheared off... I took the watch to a Rolex dealer in Guildford today and was told that Rolex would not look at it unless it was part of their service which is not due for a year or two, other than that they suggested that I go to watch restoration company !!! Then decided to see if I could get a quick fix from Timpsons so let the little man take a look in his pre fab hut in Sainsubury carpark, made his day and he done his best but said that the pin had sheared off and part of it was still in the hole, he didn't have the right pin and said it was very small approx .80mm.... So there you go I have my watch that I wear everyday doing everything from gardening, to cleaning etc sat in my draw. Any recommendations as to who I could just send the bracelet to for repair Stay safe |

Almost any jeweler who does repairs can replace the rivet,

Greetings from the UK! I too frequent the AD in Guildford, nice guys in there. Bit of a catch 22 situation.... Personally Id just stick the watch on a leather strap (my 16610 is on leather currently and its given it a new lease of life). If its bracelet or nothing for you then I guess you'll have to bite the bullet and send it back to Rolex.

Yeah its a right ball ache the 2 independent jewellers that I have ben to have both said that it needs to go back to Rolex, personally I think that they are afraid of touching it, I have one more place to try failing that will look at Nato strap. I am also going to take the watch off the bracelet as I think that doesn't help,
Its pretty piss poor to be honest when you have £7k watch but can't get the bracelet fixed. Rolex won't even look at it unless its part of a full watch service!! |

You need to find an independent bricks and mortar watch dealer who does repairs, laser welding and such. There must be some recommended ones down South there. If you were up North near Manchester I could refer you to one.

16 years of ownership with your Sub Marinar. I wonder how many times you must have looked at the dial/time in that time. The Sub is a lifetime watch for sure. It's not a watch that should be flipped, I regret selling my old Subs.

I’m fairly sure Rolex would sell you a replacement bracelet if you needed. I don’t see why they would not touch a bracelet without it being serviced. If pins are shearing and it’s been worn daily for 16 years a new one might be an option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

On Monday call the UK RSC and ask how to send them a broken bracelet for a rivet pin replacement on your clasp’s hinge. It’s better to hear directly from them.
They may have a different answer for you. But if they say you must have the full service, and you’d like your bracelet fixed, send it in even if it’s a year before you’d otherwise do. I’m sure it’ll be cheaper in 2020 than it will be in 2021. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Call Swiss Time Services, they may well be able to fix the bracelet

There’s a company in Crawley that does a pin replacement/ repairs, forgotten their name. Just had that AD in Guildford order me in a complete new strap and clasp for my 30 year old Sub cost 1k but in my view worth it. And you get to keep the old bracelet

With the high value of these things now, it’s not surprising it’s hard to find anyone willing to work on them.
The risk of damaging the clasp, even a minute scratch, in order to complete a repair that will pay minimally, just isn’t worth it. Most folks on here, getting their bracelet back repaired but with a small scratch or ding somewhere, would be starting multiple threads on forums and demanding a new bracelet plus damages and swag to cover their mental pain and time lost. That said, either find a new bracelet online or bite the bullet and send it to a specialist repair shop. Either way will be expensive, but it is a Rolex after all. |
