Seiko Hi Beat question?

I see some Hi Beat Seikos discussed on this sub forum.

What make a Seiko a Hi Beat model?

Some of the King Seiko and Grand Seiko Hi-Beats from the late 60s to mid 70s were 'only' 28,800bph. They put 'Hi-Beat' on the dial because that was still a lot faster than most watch movements back then.

Thanks Adam.

I have always thought that the hi beats were 36000 as some Zenith movements are.

I can now see now why some 28800 Seikos were dial’d as hi beats.

Tks.

I didn't know that, interesting. The latest Lord Marvel was 36,000 bph though, right?

Yes the Lord Marvel 5740-8000 was Seiko's first 36,000bph watch, though it didn't say Hi-Beat on the dial. It was produced from 1967 to 1978 so predated and outlasted the KS and GS Hi-Beats. It was only the second production 36,000bph watch in the world after Girard Perregaux Gyromatic. I've owned a few and they've all been great timekeepers even after 50 years.
