Congratulations. Great watch and a lot of fun to wear. I like the way the dial changes colors in different light conditions. Enjoy.

Is the lug width 19mm or 20mm?

Congrats! Here is mine.

I have a sub (gave to my wife) and a deepsea, absolutely no need for this watch but I just love it’s no nonsense, utilitarian look.

Case is identical in every way to the SLA017 but the caseback is 0.5mm taller. It's unfortunate they didn't bump the lugs up to 20mm but it is what it is.

Indeed. The Sub is a great watch but the Seiko has the look of a proper diver, especially on a strap. Congrats to you as well.

Beautiful retro re-issue by Seiko. Congrats!

19mm lugs are a non-issue, IMHO. Plenty of 19mm straps out there if you wanted to switch out the Seiko blue rubber. My 6263 Daytona also has 19mm lugs. No issues finding straps, and for the most part, 20mm straps also fit, depending on material. Just a tad snug.

I believe the case on the SLA037 was created with a different type of metal compared to the SLA017, so it's not just slightly thicker. Seiko used its new "Ever Brilliant Steel" for the SLA037, unlike on the SLA017.

You're correct in that they did use a new metal but the physical cases (or more specifically, midcases) are the same dimensions. However, the caseback on my 017 measured 0.50mm thinner than on the 037 with both fully seated.

The SLA017 measured 14.20mm and SLA037 measured 14.70mm. Crystals and bezels measure the same on each.

Hope that helps to clarify my statement above.

I'd post a comparison but just sold my SLA017 a few days ago and decided to keep the SLA037.

That's interesting what were your reasons for selling the SLA017?

Why don't Seiko just tell everyone the real name for their "Ever-Brilliant Steel" it can't be a unique proprietary formula because Seiko say:

It doesn't seem like its like Rolex "Ever-Rose" that is a proprietary formula, but marketing will be what it is these days with new fangled names....

Ah, yes, makes sense, thanks. I just meant that the cases of these two great limited-edition Seiko divers are a different type of steel, so the differences go beyond the slight physical difference.

Would be interesting to see them side by side to determine whether there's a noticeable difference in the luster of the steel.
