Whats the consensus on boutique/limited editions ROOs in terms of value retention

Hi all, sorry its another value/investment thread. Just wanted to get some opinions on this as I'm seriously considering adding a ROO to my collection.

We all know that most steel ROs are trading above MSRP currently and ROOs generally take a beating the moment it leaves the stores.

However, what about the boutique editions ROO? Do these take less of a beating when it leaves the store? And would you say that these would depreciate slower(or maybe even appreciate) as compared to its non boutique/limited edition models?

I'm considering the new 44mm CEs as they seem to be growing on me but would like to seek some opinions as they do cost a fair bit of money.

hard to predict the future but chrono has a blue one for 45k for sale. Chrono not the best indicator always but I can see these trading above retail and not tank unike the 42mm ROO once you leave the store. AP boutique at Crystals said they only received 5 and all were sold out immediately.

The 44 boutique only ones tend to do okay. Off the top of my head:

Camo blue = above retail
Camo green = slightly above retail
Camo brown = retail
Full grey ceramic = above retail
Pride of Germany (both) = way above retail


Non boutique 44s will take about a 30% hit if you unload them. 42s take a beating as well as dauster mentioned.

That said, my SA reached out regarding the new green ceramic and I decided to take the plunge by putting down the full deposit and hope to get it soon. I hope you do the same too and don’t pay too much attention to the aftermarket economics, especially because it’s ceramic and can take a serious beating!

I had similar concerns when I was buying mine last year and ended up buying it. Been keeping eye on market value and they’re still above retail. Not quite appreciating like Rolex sports models naturally but if it does it for you, then why to buy something that doesn’t do it?

They’re quite expensive so always good to consider value retention and 44 models are holding it very well. Worst case (unlikely), you resell at same as your purchase.

I love mine and have worn it the most in last one year. Let us know how you go.

Do remember older 44mm have been around for a while back when AD's would offer discounts. So compared to what a client might have paid back then to what the market is on them today really has not changed over the years. Same with the 42mm's.

So any of the current newer generation product you should be fine with. Again buy what you like and enjoy!

Limited Editions for most modern watches are simply another production run with sufficient examples to satisfy demand.

It is a rare LE that has true future potential above others.

Worst case, for most watch purchases, is that the hit (if any) you take on resell is not greater than the pleasure you had of owning (and hopefully wearing) the watch while you had it.

Thanks everyone for the input. I decided not to get the 44mms as i just tried it on and its massive! Lovely watch but sadly don't think i have the wrists to pull it off.

The camo brown came in rose gold and trades well over retail no ? Cheapest example on Chrono is $54k right now.

It's hit or miss. From what I "think", the basic "dial or feature swap" LE's & Boutiques don't really command a premium in the long term. They may get a bump because it's hot now, but long term they essentially look like the others.

LE's using different materials & design modifications tend to do better over time compared with standard models (although still not necessarily over initial MSRP).
