I personally just can't stand looking at just about any Panerai, I know that's strong, but I just don't understand it. One of if not the ugliest dials and cases in the "luxury" industry IMHO. The DeepSea is a great watch if you are looking for something really large, the JC dial is really unique and the black is iconic. Can't go wrong. There are other beautiful large face divers too but the DeepSea is my choice of these two. Panerai lovers don't be offended, its just an acquired taste thing. Like hating broccoli.

OP, welcome to the forum As a lover of the Panerai brand and all things Italian I appreciate the design language and history of Panerai. The case as compared to the DS is much more interesting and complex. The ability to easily change straps is also part of the fun with Panerai. Now of course I'm not comparing the Submersible here, but I think you understand my point Having owned the Dblue for about 2 years I can also wonderful things about it as well: from its over-engineered tech to its beautiful dial and of course the glidelock clasp. IMHO both brands bring alot to the table, but they are a bit ying / yang. Oh, and Panerai knows a thing or two about beautiful dials too Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk |

Very different visually. If you have a very large wrist, the Panerai may fill better.

As Brian said above, they are two entirely different watches but each can be appreciated in its own way. I have both. The DSSD the classic technically superior diver. The Panerai simplicity and utilitarian with the Italian history. From a comfort standpoint the Panerai surprises even at 47. Carbotech is on the next level - you won’t know you’re wearing it.

a bit lack of infomation. I saw toss a coin.
but for me, I would go with Deepsea if I need to choose between on. To me, Deepsea is a tank, more impressive spec, and the 2nd gen is just a lovely hulk of a watch. and get the JC version if you can. :)

I always felt the Deepsea looked too tall and totally unbalanced. The Submersible range just perfect. Do I have either, no!

At 47mm my Rad is the one of the most comfortable watches I own. I can’t imagine how the Carbotech must almost disappear on the wrist (weight wise at least) |

Just my opinion but I personally prefer the Pam.
It may be because in the part of the world I live, Rolex “ Dive” watches are so ubiquitous. I kind of class it like this. Pros: Everyone knows it’s a Rolex Cons: Everyone knows it’s a Rolex This makes the Panerai is a more interesting piece with a proven “Dive “ watch heritage. I’m taking nothing away from Rolex, it’s a great watch , just my personal preference is the Panerai. |

Panerai will be more comfortable and legible. The DSSD is a technical dive watch. I own both but all my Panerai is 44mm. Two different watches. Buy the Panerai first. Significantly more versatile with strap changes. I also think the dial proportions are better on the Panerai. I notice this every time I put on my DSSD JC. The dial looks small for the size of the watch. It’s just what Rolex had to do to fit the ring lock. You get use to it.

Both are beautiful beasts. If you are man enough to wear one of them, you are man enough to choose which one is right for you.

I have a DSSD and several 47mm Panerai submersibles. The DSSD is very cool, but it’s the height that really stands out, not the width of the case. I actually prefer to wear it on a RubberB strap, imho it sits a little better on the wrist that way.
That being said, I find the Panerai’s so much more wearable. The carbotech and the titanium versions are incredibly lightweight and comfortable. I love them all, but I find myself frequently rotating among the Panerai’s and the DSSD hasn’t gotten any wrist time in quite a while. |

DSSD would be my choice, and I really really like Panerai. Why? Both have history (Rolex made the first Panerai Diver), both are beautiful, BUT the Rolex Foundation is a stronger watchmaker and you will have the more powerful, badass, crazy mechanical watch made by a GIGANT of the industry.

Is the SD43 not an option? That’s my choice in the large diver range. It’s also more watch than you will ever need. It looks the best imo and Is a great daily.
