Assuming that the power reserve was the only thing changed, then I would say after. This would only be because it was newer though, I mean do I actually need my watch to have a 72 power, not at all.

Same improvements they made to any 32xx movement. Sub is just going to get 3235 for date version and probably 3230 for ND. 3235 will be same as anywhere where it is used. 3230 will be same but just without date.

I'm actually not a fan of a "new" movement on an existing model, 3135 seemed to do well...

Seems like there might be a couple other minor changes besides just the movement. But, if history repeats itself, they will start with PM only (platinum sub???), and not make changes to SS for two years.

What’s a lad to do if you are in the market for 116610? Sit tight, my dealer doesn’t have one for me right now anyway.

I think the new movement is almost a given with nothing different from the other models it is already in. I don’t really expect a revised case but I think there could be some other tweaks that will make people go nuts. Blue dial and bezel in SS? Oysterflex PM version?

Yes, tapering the lugs will definitely make it run better. Cheers! Great idea. (No sarcasm; complete sincerity).

Only other meaningful change would be 70 hours. But 48 is plenty good and the 3135 performs quite well, thank you, Rolex!

This is interesting. So many say that Rolex only puts blue dials on PM. Yet, the 114200 and 300 have blue dials, and so does the yacht master, and the skydweller. All of which are sunburst nonetheless. I for one am not opposed to it with the sub! Imagine the waitlist!!

Exactly by making the spring barrel thinner just to get a bit more power-reserve IMHO is not a huge improvement.Plus the fact there are still a few problems with the 32 series movements as many have already found out on forum.And even with this extra power-reserve would expect most will end up on one of these so called winding machines.So in the real world will it be better than the 31 series movements extremely doubtful.

As others have said, eventually all Rolex will see the 33xx movement update.

As for other changes, I'll have to see what they are before I decide to add one. This old thing does me just fine

One tangible difference, if the 3235 is used, the rotor is now supported with a ball bearing race. You can definitely hear it vs the silent cylinder/post bearing used on the 3135.

A new movement is all guaranteed. A new PM Sub with a green dial as well.

There is a lot more advancement in the 32 series movement over the older 31 series than just additional power reserve. It has been explained many many times on the forum. Rolex in their conservative development style would only update a movement to address deficiencies. Ceramic rotor bearings is a huge leap forward and updates the Rolex movement to current industry standards. Additional cased up accuracy standards is just another. I know change is hard for the typical Rolex enthusiast but Rolex wouldn’t make upgrades if they really didn’t feel it was required. The Submariner will get the newer and now several years old 32 series movement.
