So guys, here is my story:

I go into the jewelry store to get my watch cleaned for a work event I had last night. While the young lady is cleaning my watch for me, I venture to the Rolex section. Not more than 15 seconds later, a second sales person comes over and asks me if I have picked out a Rolex.

I said: "Of course, I had it picked out before I got here, but the deal hasn't been sweet enough for me to purchase yet."

She comes back with, "What watch and what's the best deal we've given you on it?"

I said: "The two tone Sub Serti and the best deal you've given me is $10,500."

Fast forward twenty minutes, and she comes back with the best deal she can do is $9100 + tax. Pretty good deal I think, but my wife is going to kill me if I come home with a new watch and nothing for her. So I picked out a pair of ear rings to match a ring we got her for Christmas to the tune of 1200 bucks.

I told the girls, best I will do is $9500 with taxes and everything for the watch and ear rings. Now that I’ve got the watch home I am having buyers remorse.

I know I got a good deal on the watch, maybe I didn’t, I don’t know. You can add your thoughts on that if you wish, but I feel guilty having just purchased a watch of this magnitude. Should I?? I'm debating weather or not to return the watch.

If I keep it, pictures will come. FWIW, it's a new Z serial number.

Tough one here. IMHO, buyer's remorse should only occur if you were going to use that money to buy something you needed. If you had the extra cash, wear it and I think the remorse will go away.

Well your diligence save you $1,400 that should be worth a pat on the back. Hey we're only on this planet for a brief period and most of that time is spent busting your ARSE at work for 40+ hours a week why not reward yourself and splurge here and there. If you were able to afford it without putting you/family in financial straights then why not? The reward of family and security is nice but there should be room in all our lives for those "little extras" that make us happy.

That's my philosophy anyway. If all i wanted to do in life was feed, cloth and keep a roof over myself then I find myself a $14/hour job and just survive (a less stressful job would be a nice change though LOL

). These little "splurges" are also what motivates us do to a little better each year wouldn't ya say?

No one can judge whether your guilt is justified but you. Do you only make $25k a year and as a result of your purchase your mortgage will go into default...your guilt is well deserved. Are you well-to-do and used discretionary funds that were doing nothing but sitting idle in a bank account, I would say you have nothing to be guilty about (assuming it was your money and not your wife's).

It is no sin to make an extravagent purchase that you can afford for something you will enjoy.

Here is my advice:

1. Do you look at the watch, stare at it, love it and cherish it as a fine item? If so, keep it. We ALL question spending thousands of dollars on a watch, even the most ardent Rolex groupies go through that, myself included.

2. Is it that you really like the watch, but just have such a nagging feeling that you spent a little too much money for your income and current situation? You don't want that nagging everytime you look at your watch, so maybe there's a way to ease the burden of the amount you paid. I'm thinking going to a SS model here. It's still a fantastic timekeeping device, will last you forever, looks great etc. Perhaps by dropping the amount you paid three or four thousand dollars will ease your concern, still give you a great watch and make you 100% satisfied with the transaction. Along these lines, perhaps there is a used TT you can find on TRF that looks brand new, and will also save some money, (Some people don't enjoy a pre-loved Rolex but wanted to throw this option out there anyway).

3. If you can not fincancially sustain this purchase, and it was a impulse buy that will cause you nothing but grief, return the watch.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

If money was not an issue and you are looking purely at the deal, it depends. A Z serial is a 07 model which retailed for $10.5K I think? The current M serial of 08 retails for $11.7K. Based on how much you paid versus them, still good from an AD but not as good compared to an M serial. So, maybe the watch has been sitting for awhile but as long as you get the 2 year warranty from the date of purchase, and you're going to keep it forever, it doesn't really matter. Enjoy the watch and wear in good health! You only live once.

If it's really the watch you wanted and it didn't put you if financial straits, keep it and enjoy it. If it's not the watch you wanted, exchange it for one that smiles back at you. Otherwise, return it. JMHO.

Only you know how much that amount will affect your finances. Clearly, you thought about the watch well before you pulled the trigger, so it wasn't an 'impulse' purchase. Enjoy it.

Im sure you have bought it because you could afford it! And dont worry too much if you really squeezed the AD or not... They gotta make a living too! So sit back and enjoy the classic time piece!

Isn't it easier to apologize than to ask permission when buying a luxury item, such as a watch? I am pretty sure, the wifey will understand.

seems like an Impulse Buy...you love the watch but deep inside you were put in a situation that you cant back out...well you could but you tried to haggle the price to the one you want...but in reality you were not ready...buying watches is something to enjoy and some people prepare for it before they buy..some people buy it on a special occasion and really enjoyed it the moment they buy it...like what people said if it doesn't bother you financially then its all good...but if you were just put on the spot i say you return it...maybe you feel a lot better doing it...

Great that you bought the wifey some bling too...well played!

Some great insight and wisdom from all, I enjoyed reading them even though I bought my GMT last summer! My wife wanted and got a Breitling before I got my GMT though!.

We can all tell you what we'd do...(I fall into the "you worked hard, took care of the wife, keep it category!

) but only you can decide what's right for you.

If you're still struggling, I would suggest this:
1. Find a quiet room...
2. Put it on your wrist and then close your eyes...
3. Take a deep breath (or two!)...
4. Now open your eyes and look at your new baby....

What is the first thing you felt or thought? Pay attention to that.

PS- What's a "Serti" dial exactly? I gather it's the diamond/sapphire? Is Serti an acronym or watch term? thanks..

If you were to use the money for something else that is more important than purchasing a Rolex, then I think your guilt is well deserved. (Such as paying medial bills, debt, mortgage.) If not, then why not enjoy the fruits of your labor? Like others have stated, buying a watch should be thought through with a lot of analysis not a quick purchase, after all unless your Bill Gates, the majority of people can not afford to spend thousands in the blink of an eye. I hope for you that the watch hasn't set you back too much, enjoy your timepiece.
