Securing my collection first!

With the complex fire hitting California, it’s just a matter of when, for my place to be affected. The fire started last Monday. It continues for two more days. Got a dreaded advisory text from my county yesterday morning. The fire was slowly creeping towards my area, as I was continually monitoring the advisory map online. I’m on denial and told myself, it will be fine. But the quality of air outside and the smell of smoke lingering in my place put me to a realization that my property is in harm's way. Of all the things that I need to secure, my Rolex collection was the first priority. Sleepless night and being alert, hoping not to receive a mandatory evacuation order. The evacuation was lifted in my area just about now. I took some time to put my collection on my table and take a picture to remember this incident. I hope that I could sleep tonight tight and not worry about another advisory alert to evacuate.

Bushfires must be respected, I have experienced many, as Australia is a little like California in that regard. I remember the Ash Wednesday fires in 1983, cleaning up my parents farm, destroying stock etc. Grab the things you love and evacuate, even Rolex watches can be replaced. Stay safe!

@Aussieexplorer: Totally agree with you!
@214270Explorer: Thanks for the suggestion. I've been trying for a long time to secure a bank deposit box with no success. The waitlist is long just like buying stainless steel Rolex at the AD, lol.

I lived in SO CAL for 5 yrs. I saw many canyon fires, every year occurrence. Two of my inlaw forrest firefighters from Michigans U.P. are out west now. That's the scariest thing ever when it hits home. Glad to hear your families fine..

@Seddyspaghetti: Sure will!
@Nikrnic: Got relatives living at Anaheim Hills. Numerous incident of fire near their place. Somehow, that doesn't deter them to move out.

that's quite a collection, and so glad to hear everything is in the clear for u for now (knock on wood)

Brings back some not so nice memory as we came close to losing our house during the 2008 fire in northeast orange county here in SoCal, felt like half the city was on fire and with a lot of hills there was not enough water (or water pressure) for the firefighters to work with... there are still a couple empty lots on the next block over till this day, left from the houses that burned down then...

Stay safe and keep that collection growing!

I’d invest in a Sturdy Safe. They are located in Fresno Ca. They have plenty of real life stories showing there safe sustain fires.

Stay safe! And we are seeing smelling and have ash all over our vehicles..

@GGGMT: Thanks! I was really into Rolex even before the madness. Fortunate enough to have a good AD relationship and able to collect some. My first watch is the datejust. Turned down the Daytona when i was asked the first time way back 2016. Later on, change my mind and need to wait for 6 months to get one. Im not well off, just addicted to Rolex,lol.

I have thought about retirement in Napa or Sonoma for quite some time, but the new reality of California fire season makes me think maybe I should stay in the suburbs.

So many people are losing their homes.

Stay safe everyone!
