No love for my 5 digits

Have a couple of 5 digits in my collection, amongst a lot of 6 digits. Finding it really hard to wear these now after having the newer bracelets. Anyone else experienced this?

I have worn this watch more than any other I own, but not recently. Im not into vintage (yes this is only about 15 years old) but it’s a huge jump in quality I feel, from the 5 to the 6 digit.

This one is on the chopping block.

to each their own as personally i prefer 5 digit references presently

selling them is probably wise and wont be exactly hard to sell

but then again probably a safe place for your cash and you avoid possible sellers remorse

and that is a gorgeous watch

5 digit flat out looks better and that lightweight tuna can clasp is oh so comfy especially in solid 18k gold

Does the OP watch look like solid gold? It is just TT, and those stamped clasps and hollow center links are a major step down from the modern technology. And I have owned both versions.

At the moment not wearing Rolex at all ...Jaeger leCoultre ,IWC and Panerai in rotation.

I love 5 digit models. Not enough to make one my go to though. I find for me and my 8” wrists and ageing eyes, 6 digit models work better for me.

I’ve become bored with them now and have been eyeing Panerai.

This has become a mainstay daily for me. Because it’s different and super comfphy

Exactly, I've tried in the past but they're just awful in my opinion, if you must buy a Rolex it has to be a 6 digit

I went backwards. My second rolex was a 2019 Sub date. I liked it until I got a 5 digit Explorer II; then I realized just how much more comfortable the 5 digit was. Eventually I was wearing the Sub so rarely I sold it (for a nice profit) and bought a 5 digit GMT. Love that one too. Only thing I'd change is the clasps, but on balance the 5 digit feels better. FWIW, I've stuck to early 2000's SEL models trying to get as sturdy a 5 digit as possible.

Yes. I agree. It’s almost impossible to go backwards from the 6 digits if you value Rolex’s tight tolerances and best-in-category bracelets.

People have nostalgia for the proportions, but are quick to forget the huge step-up in quality that the 6 digit models delivered.

I could not have summarized it better. Once you hold/wear the new 6 digit models you simply cannot go back. The new bracelets are so much superior and while people knock the dials, they are simply more legible.

That is totally true . Sold 16610 LV , bought new Sub , never looked back.

This is exactly what is keeping me from purchasing a 16610 and waiting on the AD. The bracelet on the newer models is amazing, and I don't want to feel like I am taking a step back when I know how well the new style wears.

I love the look and feel of 6 over 5 digits. That being said many feel the other way. You have 10k on your arm. Can you use that 10k for sometime you will enjoy more? If so sell it!

May I respectfully add, if Rolex thought the 5 digit Subs were so awesome they wouldn't have created the 6 digit versions. They seen many weak points and improved upon all of them.

Room for all, in my opinion! 4-digit (which is what I consider the Snowflake), 5-digit, and the beasty 6-digit.

I love them all for their own little details.

I don’t agree. If we look at the same argument for the GMT…..

The replacement of the 3185 to the 3186 inside the GMT was not an improvement in my mind.

Beefing up the case with wider lugs hasn’t improved the robustness of the case in any way, its just re-styled it for a newer generation.

Upsizing the dial and handset made it easier to read and I will say that the ceramic bezel inserts are proving to be more robust in many ways, but at the expense of aesthetic. Ceramic bezels do not look as nice as the aluminium bezel inserts they replaced and never will.

So in some ways we have a slightly more robust watch, but not a better watch necessarily.

Even the hollow end link Tuna can style bracelets and clasps of the older 5 digits are more comfortable. I wear my ceramic LN on a sub bracelet with glidelock. As good as the glidelock clasp is, it feels and looks way to clunky and is really best suited for its intended purpose…..over a wetsuit as opposed to on the wrist.

Don’t get me wrong, I wear my 6 digit GMT’s a lot and my LN still looks great after 7 years of continual use, but so do my 5 digits which have lived their lives and I’ve now retired them into the collection.

But proportionally, I think the 5 digits look way better than the current references that have replaced them, and they are still every bit as capable and accurate and will outlast the users life and the next.

I have one 5-digit Rolex, the 16570 Explorer II, which I intend to keep 'forever'. But there is little comparison in build quality for sure. The main thing annoying me is that I would like to take one more link out from the bracelet and that is not possible without irreversible modification.

I recently saw on another forum, 16570 with new Oyster bracelet and thefore glidelock. I'd kill to have that combo.

Does that fit out fo the box? Sounds comfortable, at least if it had the same bracelet as current Exp with a ez-link would be great.

Anyway I don't like to modify my Rolex watches so for me it will always be that issue with the 5.
