Wait. What?!? Seiko releases NEW Alpinists? Huh?
https://timeandtidewatches.com/intro...j-and-spb159j/
Didn't we already get new Alpinists in the form of the SPB117, SPB119, and SPB121 earlier this year? I mean aesthetically the SPB155, SPB157, and SPB159 look like Alpinists but they're missing the inner compass bezel which is arguably the key feature of the watch. |

Maybe buoyed by the success of the Tic-Tac release

These look awesome!!! Love the 38mm size... looks very clean without the rotating inner bezel and extra crown. Nice handset. 6R35. Green version looks like a winner. Seiko continuing to kill it.

Agreed - not an alpinist without the inner compass bezel. Original was much better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think I like this better without the inner compass.

I don’t even know what an inner bezel compass is for, I won’t miss it. I won’t miss the cyclop over the date, either.

The dial, hands and case look nice, but it’s a strange release. Taking away the compass is taking away the heritage of the watch. Imagine a 38mm Submariner without a bezel but still called a “Submariner”. Weird. It might look good, but weird.

^ Although the first Alpinist in the 1960s didnt have a compass.
But i agree, the Alpinist gained prominence with the SARB017 i think. And it has a compass. That is the iconic Alpinist for me. |

Many alpinists didn’t have that stupid compass bezel and second crown. https://thespringbar.com/blogs/guide...lectors-guide/ |

No cyclops is a win. But one look at it and it doesn't possess that special it factor.

I think this could be a really good inexpensive alternative to the Rolex Explorer. Seems very versatile and it has 200m of water resistance. It can be a do anything, go anywhere watch.
