Is it possible to walk into an AD and walk out with a new Sub?

You walk into a Rolex AD without an appointment and you are not a VIP, preferred client, or any type of client. You have no purchase history AT ALL with the company.

What are the chances that you can walk out with a new Submariner?

YES!

There's always that chance! Usually when new shipment comes in with multiple pieces of same watch and you happen to be at right time, some AD's don't mind selling few right away if there's a good customer and looks to be potential repeat buyer!

Hard to believe this is not a marketing strategy by Rolex. Why introduce a new version of the most iconic model you've ever had without providing availability? There was no reason to release these new models if no AD's would have inventory (for a year or two) unless it was planned. If it's covid they would have delayed new models even longer until inventory was available (if a normal company). I think Rolex digs the scarcity thing for some reason.

You can definitely get lucky- I have once before on vacation. I've also heard from friends that were able to pick one up on a cruise!

Of course.

It’s also possible to win the lottery in the UK which has odds of 14 million to one.

As said above that may happen on an island stop on a cruise perhaps? An airport AD? Other than that very unlikely but not impossible!

Without prior history it should be that if a sub is simply available in stock, you can walk out with one.

What it’s turned into is that without prior history, if the AD has a reason to sell you one, you can walk out with one.

Sure, I could have done it on two occasions in the last couple of weeks. Would even have walked out with the Sub AND a two-tone Datejust - I had taken the AD up on his bundle offer

When you say walk out with new Sub, you mean Rolex magazine? Yes, possible.

50% chance in 2017. 1% chance in 2020. It's not impossible yet it would take some incredibly good timing if you mean a 12 series in SS

Is it mostly an American phenomenon that they're scarce here? Do other countries have the same issues?

Based upon your question as phrased I would say no chance. I do not believe any new subs will be sold that way for quite some time unless supply or demand changes.

I did exactly this last year and got my 114060 in Amsterdam during a brief trip. I believe it helps to be very polite and unassuming - I honestly think the sales ladies were pissed off with the large number of rude tourists that preceded me.
I accept I was extremely lucky, and if I tried it again 100+ times I'd be laughed out of the store. But occasionally it does happen!

Possible?? Sure it is possible, but it is not something that is probable.
Lots of things have to align for you to match up with an AD that has an unsold, unspoken for, no interest from anyone stainless steel sports reference like a brand new released 41 Submariner(no date) I assume based on the description that he can put in the case and wait for a person to walk in and buy it.

An LV41, a Sub Date, unlikely, a Sub no date, maybe, especially at airports, but I can say I know the two ADs I frequent will give you a dry expressionless face NO!
When I was in Madrid and Marbella last year and asked about a BLRO or Explorer, they flat out said "olvídate, es impossible ahorra como estan las cosas, y no tenemos disponibilidad en ninguna lista"...ie, forget it, it's impossible right now the way things are and we don't have any lists open for new clients. But crazier things have happened, good luck.

Years ago, when I worked at Tourneau, my VP of Sales contacted me one day to say that our store was getting in six white dial and six black dial Daytonas, 116250's. We had to make room for newer stock, so a few stores were getting older ones to flush out. My sales team had sold five of each to their clients in about two days time and I held onto one of each, so I could give a leg up to that random client who would eventually walk in and jokingly ask if we had one available. I sold the other two pieces that week and two random fellows truly believed that miracles do come true. Anything is possible.

Is it possible to walk into an AD and walk out with a new Sub?

3 years ago I got a no-date, they also had on display one with date... so it happens just not often.

I’m going to visit in a few days this secret AD I have “relation” and asked them to try locating a couple of models ahead of time. I might get lucky or not.

We will see.
