Auto winder or let it sit

Just got my 6610 1957 Explorer and 6285 1953 Oyster Perpetual from Phillip Ridley.

They are great. Everything is as it should be. I enjoyed working with the watch

As I now have two working Rolex watches, two Seiko watches, and my Suunto, I cannot wear most of them that often. As I store them should I get an auto winder of just let them sit?

What are the advantage(s) or disadvantage(s) of an auto winder?

Probably an old question, but new for me.

A watch that is not running is incurring zero wear. A watch that is running (such as on a winder) is incurring maximum wear.

This ^^^^^

I absolutely use a winder for my annual calendar and that’s it.

Winders are for newbies. Get in touch with the soul and rhythm of your watches.

This is the consensus I gathered when I queried a question about why watches weren’t set to the correct time when you visit an AD. It makes sense that you want to keep the wear to a minimum and nothing wears less than an non moving machine.

You want maximum wear and tear, try setting the date on your 1601 from, say, the 6th of the month to the 5th. If you wear a few watches in rotation, switching every few days, a high end winder makes sense.

That's easy, since you can adjust the time and date backwards too.

Fair point! And there’s a lot written on this, but I’ve been advised on several occasions not to change the date on a non-quickset by going backwards and backwards. So, perhaps I change my example above to going from 6th to 20th. Backwards or forwards, lots of movement. I prefer to simply to put on and wear my watches for a few days rather have to wind and set them every couple of weeks to then wear them for a few days.
