Anyone has experience dealing with the Dallas boutique?

Can someone share some experiences dealing with Dallas boutiques?

I had a really hard time in the U.S. Boutiques living so far away from them. No chance for them to know me. I kept getting ignored on the phone and every conversation started with a “we cannot put you on the list” or “there is a long wait list”. I had not even told them what I wanted.

Anyone have a different experience?

I’d be happy to make an intro for you if you want.

I think with all boutiques, in person visit is important over phone calls.

I also think in terms of NYC Vs Dallas...very tricky to decide which one to bet your chips on. On the one hand, Dallas as a new Botique is trying to develop new clientele and can also source pieces from the other stores, but then the flip side is I think some of the super hot pieces have flowed the other way as well.

I personally think I would go NYC for the first piece.

Thanks everyone for chiming in. I been to both boutiques and to be honest I felt the NYC boutiques seem more streight forward? If you could call it that. The Dallas boutique seem nice but I could feel they are trying to develop new relations and build it fast. i.e. with multiple large purchases, so a bit more pressure to buy things your not 100 percent in love with. I'm a person that wears more white metal watches, white gold, platinum and ss. I like color gold but I just don't wear them due to work and such. I have all the basic APs even a code. I'm looking for perpetual calenders, open works, and tourbillon, but in white metals only and thats tough for AP without a strong relationship.

In general I’ve had a better connection with the Dallas boutique vs NYC. NYC mentioned needing me to come into the store to get to know me, which I totally get, but is hard in today’s day and age. In my personal experience they came off a little more stand-offish. With the Dallas boutique it was easier to communicate over the phone and for them to get to know me and my tastes, and in general I had a better idea of what they had to offer.

I guess it also depends which sales associate you get though. But all the times I called Dallas they were helpful.

OP, I got the exact same feel you did with both. They did have that code open worked tourbillon if that’s your speed. Not sure if sold already in Dallas.

same here, have never been to Dallas but Bruce has been great in keeping me updated on new available watches even though I have never bought a watch or set foot in their boutique.

they are friendly in selling you what they might have in stock, and happy to push a code on you to get considered for anything that they don't. i guess this might be the typical model now though

lol I feel your frustration but in my experience the SA is not at fault for how crazy the watch world has become. They can only be professional, know their stuff and be friendly (which Dallas is very much so)- you can't expect anybody to perform miracles if you are small time like myself or at least don't have a large purchase history:)

If everybody got what they want, you probably don't want it. Just kidding. Joking aside, I've come to terms with this concept. This is where relationships are built and how brand loyalty is acquired.

If you wanted a 15202ST, and everybody wanted it, how do you know which one to sell it to? If there's demand, you bet they are going to make sure it goes to the "right" customer. A right customer in this case is mostly not a one-off, it goes to people who are loyal to the brand, they buy other pieces and most likely would buy future releases as well and for years to come.

This is also why the grey market is valuable, if you don't want to play, pay the price. You get to skip the line and get what you want albeit a higher price.

The only thing I like about going through the normal route is that you actually learn to appreciate the process. You appreciate that it takes time and effort to get a piece. And while you wait, you do get access to events and other niceties and to an extent being part of the "family" as they say. You can always sell that piece you didn't really like to acquire the next one, so I say win-win (except the waiting).

I do think you make some good points there, however the availability is so limited your basically buying offshores and codes. How many of these can you buy? I don't want to become a part time watch dealer just to become part of the "family"

On a personal note, I'm looking for ss or white gold perpetual, tourbillon and higher end complications and they are just not avaliable. I already own 5 APs.
Royaloak chrono, 1 rose gold code, 1 rose gold royal oak 15400, 1 royal oak 15500 black dial, 2 offshores and I still can't get the watches I want.

I don't know a ton and have zero AP references. But I did make an appointment at the NYC boutique recently and had an excellent experience in terms of having an honest conversation with the Sales Specialist there. While he did mention references that were more easy to acquire in the nearterm at the end of our convo, by no means did he suggest that purchase of those reference had any bearing on me getting the ROC I was looking to acquire. So, fwiw, if you're willing to go in and get to know the folks there (and have some patience)...I don't personally see there being a need to buy watches you don't want.

And you make a valid point as well. I don’t know how to react to that one as you already have such a great envious collection.

Everything you say is accurate, but then after you get a few non code pieces, then they start harping on your “profile”. And while they never say you need to buy a code, they definitely mean it when they just repeat the sentence.

I am never a proponent of buying something you really don't want to get something you do. However, the new Codes are totally worth checking out. All of them are appealing in their own way, although I strongly prefer the black/gray dial. The blue is nice as well, and if the maroon and purple fit your personal style, they are equally amazing.

Filter out all the bad stuff you'll read online, and see them in the flesh. I think the Code is going to be incredibly well positioned between casual and dress and we're at the point where it's starting to establish itself. Having the AD's push them and use them as a stepping stone to an RO or ROC isn't going to hurt either, although I don't think this is even going to be necessary in the next year or two.

If they fix the awful numerals font, I'm a buyer. I'd sincerely get it over a calatrava dress watch which feels both a better design and better value. But uh..with the current font just feels like a Emprio Armani or Michael Kors watch. Can't shake why I have the feeling since I couldn't find a similar watch via a quick online search that uses the same font. I do wish they would just firm up on what they define as the profile, so I don't end up chasing rabbit holes like the OP and still not being able to get what I want.

Agreed numerals are the problem...but realistically, how many watches do you plan on buying in the near future? If the answer is 1-2 I'd say go grey 4 or more over the next couple years I'd say try to start a relationship.

I sincerely hope AP doesn’t start forcing customers to buy the CODE line to buy RO. The dials on the CODE line is pretty uninspiring. The issue is not the case which is well made and unique, but the dial is just a mess. The recently launched openworked tourbillon CODE shows that the model is promising but not with the current iteration of dials.

Me too, taking the Rolex approach to sales would suck with AP.

Rolex, PP, AP, they're all the same now. Richard Mille, as well.

Speculation and hoarding has ruined it for true enthusiasts.

I was in the Dallas boutique a few weeks ago. The young lady I spoke with very nice and knowledgeable. I asked about a 37mm Royal Oak and she let me try on the diamond bezel one they had in the store. She also, very politely, told me that the more popular references like the one I asked about are usually reserved for the customer that “they know very well”. We all know what that means, but she was very nice about it.

Also, parking in that shopping center is terrible unless you want to valet.
