Too many blues?

I thought I’d ask the greater collective here for some impartial advice if I may.

I’ve wanted an AP for sometime now and it may take sometime more before it happens. I’ve wanted a blue 15500 as blue has always been my favourite colour.

However. . . . . I’ve a blue VC overseas and a blue skydweller. I’m wondering if I’d wish I’d gone for a different colour dial in the future. Whilst I know there isn’t a right or wrong answer, I’m keen to know what others think. My wife loves white dials and thinks the 15500 in white is stunning.

Can I have too much blue is the question

I have this same issue. I am now trying to cut back on the blue watches. I suggest 15500 in another color (I have grey and it’s awesome)

That said, blue 15500 is beautiful so it’s a good problem to havw

It's better to have various colors if you like them all, but if you like blue a lots better than other colors, it's nothing wrong to have many blue.

Blue dial is the most sought after and has the most premium in the gray market.

All dial colors of AP look gorgeous, it's just a matter of personal preference.

They'll definitely look dated in the future...........much like a TT Datejust from the 80's does now. Mix it up!!!

I tend to agree it is best to mix things up in terms of dial color. Trends change, although I think the changes will mainly impact secondary market premiums and not so much what may look dated. Blue/Black/White/Gray are always safe.

This said, if you can get your hands on an AP blue dial (15400/15500/Jumbo), I'd get it without hesitation. Even if it means departing with something you currently have. AP blue is something special.

I dont like the vacheron blue that much vs AP blue, if possible Id AP in blue and rather get other watches in a different color. But AP black (most underrated) and grey/silver is also nice in my opinion.

Totally agree. Any 15400/15500 is gorgeous and a winner in any collection.

For me the blue on the VC is striking but I get your other points.

I’m leaning towards the white/silver dial at present. Though some of the chrono’s look amazing.

One cant have too many blue dials.

Among others, i have three blue dialed Rolex and a blue 15400. Blue is what made the RO famous i think.

Blue is my favorite color. I wouldn't mind having multiple watches in blue.

That said, if you did reduce the blue watches in your collection, the AP blue would be one of the ones I'd keep.

I find the white/silver 15500 absolutely stunning. The patisserie really comes alive in that dial. If both you and your wife like the white, then I’d vote to go for it.

There will be an opportunity to get an AP blue down the road.

Love the typo there, or perhaps this is AP’s riposte to the RM Bonbon models?

I get it. I have the blue VC chrono but wanted a bit of a different look(dial color). At the end of the day there is no wrong answer since they are all fantastic.

I think those three models are best in blue, but the VC and AP are unique blues of a certain hue, whereas the SkyD blue is more generic and common, so I'd swap that for white if 3 blues are too much.

Ha ha that’s quite topical - I had a white skydweller and sold it to my mate a few weeks ago when I got the blue one .... much against my wife’s wishes. She wanted me to keep both but it just didn’t make sense.

The other thing for me to consider it a that the blue may well take a year to get from now, whereas the white will be a lot less wait time. Not sure on the grey, which one s the other consideration.

I love the VC in black, it's my favorite version, in fact. Blue AP and SKyD also seem much harder to replace than the VC, if you change your mind down the road.

re VC blue preference that is obviously highly subjective (also don't like the finishing on the VC). If I had the smaller wrist for it I'd go with the 38mm chronos - so many great color combos.

Highly subjective you maybe but not most as I read more positive comments about the VC blue than any other. Having owned it, the skydweller blue and 5711 in blue for me it wins every time. Anyway its not a VC debate I’m looking for.

Nothing wrong with having several blue dials. I have a ROC blue dial in RG, blue Skydweller, and the VC Dual Time in blue. I have zero regrets. All have a different hue of blue and that alone is enough variety for me.

As for the VC blue, you have to see it in the sunlight to truly appreciate it.

I’m really coming around to the white dial, or even possibly the panda as I think it would go well with my current line up. Whilst I’d love the blue I’m guessing it unlikely as I have no history with AP and it seems it’s hard to get.

That’s assuming I can get the white of course, which I might not be able to.

I'd go with the Panda ROC if that is an option, the white on the 41mms does make the watch wear even wider/larger.

I’ll have a more in depth look at it - is it the sort of watch you can get a deal on? Think it’s 26k.

I tried on the panda and loved it. Had great presence. Deliberated over it and the white 15500 and probably slightly preferred the panda. However . . . . I went for the 15500. From what I can gather/figure having the updated movement and glass back may well come to the chrono and if it does I’ll consider it then. I’m happy with the choice I made and my wife even happier as she loves a white dial!
