Jewelers mutual

I want to have my SD43 insured, and I have decided to go with JM.
I have read here that they will cover market price instead of buying price.
Do you have to have it officially appraised at market value prices?

Yes you do. Generally the people you buy it from will give you an appraisal of what it sells for retail but none of my retailers will give me an appraisal of what it sells for on the market. You’ll have to get an independent appraisal for that and you absolutely can do that. Unfortunately you’ll probably have to pay for it but it’s well worth it. Jewelers mutual will accept that new appraisal.

I can highly recommend JM. When my SS GMT II was stolen, they sourced one for me directly from Rolex. I had an LN, which wasn't available anymore, and JM sent me a new BLNR, which cost more. Excellent service. Extremely satisfied. I'm not sure whether checks would have ever been involved. They seemed to want to work directly with Rolex or ADs for the replacement.

That's pretty awesome. I use Chubb OP.

Yes - they will insure for whatever appraised value you have. I recently obtained a new appraisal on my Hulk and increased my coverage.

If they prefer to go directly to the rolex or ADs, I wonder if its worth reappraising the SD43, as it only sells for 1-2k over the AD price

Bumping and older topic here to see if anyone else had the same thing happen.

I chose to have the 0 deductible policy and JM underwriter said that the $500 deductible policy is required. Anyone have this happen? I’m waiting to hear back from them but they said it’ll be another 2-3 business days lol

Just checked mine and policy was adjusted last month (for an updated appraisal on my Hulk)... Policy still reflects $0 deductible. Additionally, they seem to have raised the insured value on my 114060 without a new appraisal or my request to do so. It is now a bit above retail.

Gotcha. Thanks for checking. I’ll await their response as to why I’m required to have a $500 deductible. In the meantime I’ll shop around for better insurance, I’d much prefer the $0 deductible

I have JM, and all of my pieces are either $250 or $500 deductible. All the Rolex pieces are $500.

How do you feel about it? Has it been worth it? I just applied for Lavalier to see how they compare

How do I feel about having insurance? If you have expensive jewelry and watches, it’s a necessity — unless you don’t care about losing the value of those items if lost or stolen. The deductible is no different than if a had a car accident.

Good perspective. I’ll see what Lavalier comes back. If it’s a 0 deductible I’ll go with them.

I actually went through my homeowners insurance....added a separate jewelry policy. $500 deductible, absolutely everything (but neglect of course) is covered. Had to get an appraisal, used Elitetimepieces.com for this. They’re great to work with, give high market value for the appraisal, and you just need to give them a couple pics of the watch and warranty card, then the appraisal is emailed to you...very easy.
$1400 per year for the 3 watches I insured ....completely worth it for high end jewelry/watches, IMO.
