26300 vs 26331 vs 26120

Hey guys I have an opportunity to purchase these guys but need some opinions before I jump the gun.

I’m well into Rolex and have a few pieces in my collection already but I’ve been eyeing AP for quite some time and I’d like some opinions from the masters.

One of my buddies is offering his 26120ST which is a full set with box and papers black dial for around 36k CAD.

Another buddy is offering his 26300 for same price but no box and says he will reach out to AP service Centre to get some sort of paper authentication I know with Rolex once the original warranty card is gone than you’ll never get it back and horrible with resale if need be in future.

And third and final is a brand new AP 26331 with black dial full set he wants around 44k CAD.

I have no idea what retail price is but I’m sure it’s a lot lower but in Canada it’s almost impossible to get any AP at retail

Need suggestions

Your friends are not being real friendly to you when It comes to price. Find new buddies and call an AP boutique instead.

There’s only 1 in Canada and from what I’m hearing it it’s 31,427$ USD which once converted is around 42k CAD so he’s charging a couple gs over retail technically

At those prices you’re better off just going grey with full set

Go to Chrono24 to get ball park prices. It's only an idea and not in stone. According to AP there are two dealers in Canada. I don't know where you are located but I would give them a call or better yet visit. Also, the first two watches you talk about are discontinued.

really? From my knowledge and looking on the website there is only one (RDV) and I called and they basically laughed at me. Lol

Is discontinued AP similar to Rolex value wise in future? I mean I’m buying to wear but good to know!

26300 vs 26331 vs 26120

The AP AD is the best option. If you’re willing to wait and also get lucky, maybe you get allocated a steel non blue dial RO or ROC in a year

Otherwise just pay the grey price and get something with full set along with the safety/recourse of buying from a trusted seller

Lots of trusted sellers on this forum you can look at. There are black dial ROCs being listed on this forum for roughly the price your friend is asking for so you should be able to negotiate a bit lower plus get the peace of mind of having bought from a trusted seller.

DavidSW has an "unworn" black 26331 for USD 31975 (42k CAD). Not sure where on the buddy/friend scale your relationships fall and whether your buddy paid retail, but 44k CAD doesn't strike me as a particularly great deal.

If DavidSW is selling unworn black 26331st for 42k CAD, your friend pre-owned 26331st would worth less than 42k CAD.

I think it's better for you go to the boutique and put your name on the waitlist for 26331st black dial. This way, you start having a good relationship with the boutique for future purchase.

I've owned several Royal Oaks and IMO the best proportions are on the 39MM models.

If you want to go sporty the 26300, more dressy the 26120.

Can't go wrong with either one, assuming you're ok with the prices.

Not exactly OK, but again I can’t find retail prices anywhere lol so I wouldn’t know what I’m overpaying but I know that atleast in Canada is very hard to acquire an AP

I'm pretty sure the AP AD or boutique won't sell a 26331 over the phone, but I assume they'd be willing to quote MSRP if one calls them. Of course one can also find numbers on the web, but AP has been raising prices so quickly its hard to keep up

OK but he knows Davidsw is the top guy so he should have a 2-3K premium over normal dealers so he should offer you at least that off, plus a bit more if he is not just an acquaintance.

I would echo wisguy's sentiment. I'm fortunate to own a 26120 and a 25860 and love them both. For your decision, I would give some consideration to how each watch wears on your wrist. While the former two are both 39mm, they each wear differently, with the 26120 having a larger presence. And at 41mm, the 26331 would wear noticeably larger than the former two.

In regards to pricing, I think there should be some wiggle room. European Watch Co in Boston recently had two 26120s (one black dial, one white dial -- with box and papers) both listed at $26.3 usd ($34.45 cad at 1.31 usdcad).

I always liked the 39mm dual time. I went for a 41mm ROC instead as I could get one new. I would probably consider trading into a 39mm variant of some sort but don't really want to pay the dealer spread so I never bothered.

Guess that doesn't help answer, but general concensus is that the 39mm is the preferred size for many. You would really need to try them on to be sure, or just take a punt on what you like and make it work.

You’re saying it fits better on the wrist? I have a pretty big wrist but I’ve never tried an AP on

It is the same size as the 26331 but much prefer the dial layout on the 26320. My wrists aren't that big and can accomodate the watch fine.
