Trying on "hard to get" pieces

I am currently on the list for a 124060, but I am yet to try one on or even see one in person. My wrists are small, so I'm not sure if the new 41mm will be too big for me.

I am wondering if anyone has had any experience of their AD letting them try on a "hard to get" piece, even when they are not the ones next in line to purchase it?

Some AD’s will allow you to try on pieces which are sold to other clients while
others don’t

A good amount of ADs were sent (at least temporarily) a set of all the new pieces without functioning movements. I got to try on the new 41mm sub before buying it that way. You can also get a feel for the size by trying on a PM piece of the same model if they have it.

ive tried on several that were sold to others incl daytona, pepsi, etc. or try on a pm version for sizing, those are usually more available.

My advice would be to go to a Grey dealer and try them on and see if you actually like them. Watchfinder in Brent cross had both dial colours of the 116500 as well as both 126710’s, 126610 and 124060.

What is your wrist size?
Maybe some people could put up photos with similar wrist size.

New sub is barely larger in the literal sense. The wider end links and larger dial indices, hands along with half-millimeter bezel enlargement is mostly a trick of the eyes. If you’ve tried on the previous version it’ll be almost the same.

That's a great idea - any pictures would be much appreciated. My wrist is 6 and a half inches.

I can't stress enough the importance of seeing in real life any watch before you buy it.

At the AD I've been able to try the new releases I was interested in, namely the Sub TT Bluesy and the OP41 in bright blue and yellow so far, more colours to follow (turquoise and green) . While I was there I also saw stuff I didn't like on pictures and got a confirmation in the flesh (GMT TT CHNR and full gold CHNR). I would really like to see a steel Pepsi at some point.

When visiting a grey dealer to get a trade-in quote on my Speedy, I was shown the new Kermit, not that I was interested but it was there and the dealer wanted me to see it, meh. I really don't get the appeal of this watch, it does absolutely nothing to me.

My AD is great, if they have something in stock then they are more than happy to let me try the watch on, how else can you be certain that it is the watch you want?

We view pictures and videos across a number of websites to get an idea of which watches we want, but sometimes the reality doesn't match up with our expectations.

So I have no issue with my watch being tried on by someone else before I collect it, I couldn't get my new Submariner for a week as I was on holiday when it came in, I am sure that a few others tried it on before I picked it up. But stickers were all intact so no issue.

Some different angles on my 6.5" wrist. It's at the upper limit of size that I'm comfortable with. I much prefer the proportions of my Daytona.

I agree that finding one at a grey dealer is the best way to try it on before you buy.

Buy it if your AD offer this model to you.

Here’s my 114060 (which is pretty much the same size) on my 6”25 wrist.
Also this angle makes the watch bigger than it actually looks.
You’ll have no problem with the 124060

Depends on your relationship with a store for them to show you what is in the safe or sold.

Rolex should do what FP Journe does, and have the entire collection without movement in boutiques for size.

Depends on the AD. If you have a good relation with them they will let you try it on. Otherwise other ADs still have the dummy 2020 rolex colleczione. Just call around and ask. Goodluck!

Thanks all for the photos and advice. Looks as though it will sit nicely on my 6 and a half inch wrist - would still love to try one on in person though!

6.5 is not that small, the Sub should be fine, see if there's a grey or used seller near you that you can visit next month after lockdown ends.

Any of the 40mm ceramic sports will give you an idea. I'm not allowed any unnecessary shopping trips lately but a dealer with some inventory shouldn't be hard to find. The good news is Rolex shaved off some of the previous bulk so the new Subs should look even better. I see you're a fellow countryman so it may take a while actually.. :|

Don't get me wrong, if I get offered one, I will be taking it! I would just like to be able to try one on now, rather than waiting X amount of months/years until one becomes available!

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately there is only one AD in my county, so I have been quoted a 3 year wait

I'm not aware of any grey's in my county either - I might have to take a trip down to the big smoke in the new year if restrictions allow!

My AD arranged for me to try the DSSD before I went for the Seadweller 43mm. The Deep
Sea was for somebody else but they had no problem in letting me try it on.

Best to go to a grey, I bought a Submariner 114060 last week and did a side by side comparison against a new 41sub.
You certainly don't need to worry about the size of the new model, it certainly wore smaller than the 40 due to the slimmer lugs

I have 2 ADs in my state - got on waiting list about a month ago for 124060 for both...was told it would likely be 2021 if anything, as the lists were 15 people deep. Got the call in late OCT and picked it up; just got the call from my other dealer today they had one in for me. Go figure.

After having owned a 114060, I can say the new watch wears bigger IMHO - especially the wider bracelet. 1mm doesnt sound like a huge difference, but it feels much wider - especially with the slimmer lugs. I would try on a supercase before you buy if you have small wrists and are concerned.
