Sub or Yachtmaster

Hi

Please help me with this dilema.
I am about to buy another waych.
I have the following choices.
2004 yg mens yachtmaster, white dial

or

2004 yg submariner black dial black bezel

Both are in extremely good condition, no difference

I like them both equally and would buy them both if I could.
I can only buy one. They are exactly the same price and I am convinced one os more valuable than the other, but I don't know which.

What do you people think?

In other words all things being equal is a yg Yachtmaster worth more than a YG submariner or vice versa?

Thanks

Tim

I would get the YM as everyone and their dog has a SUB.

True, but I really do like both of them, so I sort of decided to decide on the basis of which of the two is the best investment

Well first no watch should be thought of or bought for a investment.Second gold watches do not hold price proportionally to the SSteel models.IMHO the Sub would hold its price better in the market over the YM.

Both aren't particularly popular, so resale wont be leaps and bounds ahead on either. I'd buy purely on cosmetics. In which case YM for me

My advice, the TT Sub. though a big fan of the YM, for me a YM is only desirable if it the platty one, on the other hand, the TT sub has great presence and obviously it's not inferior to the YM by any means.
Best,

I guess from the coments so fa, that they are both of the same monetery value.
I will have to find another basis to decide.
Padi56. I don't agree that no watch should be bought as an investment. I think that every thing bought, should be bought with a residual value in mind. This protects our wealth and allows us , ultimately to buy more.

OOOh, difficult choice. All I can say is, don't base your decision on which one you think will hold it's value better. As is always the case, go for the one that smiles back at you. However, I like rollie's response. That's one of the reasons I got the Yacht-Master.

Thanks 2thDR
I have to admit I am tempted towards that decision. I just dont want to buy the YM and then find out that I would have been a grand in front, if I had bought the Sub.
I suppose people have bigger problems!

There is a reason the sub is more popular, its the true classic. Its funny cause if we're talking YG I don't like either. My choice for YG would be the YM II. For SS a Sub, and Platty for the YM JMHO but a solid YG Sub or YM are very similar, and honestly I'd just get the one that sang to me that little bit more than the other

I would have said the YM, until actually looking at the Sub... It is SUB ALL THE WAY!

Tim, I thought the idea of buying a Rolex is to use, wear it and enjoy. If you want an investment there are other financial institutions to put your money in for gaining a profit. Buy the one that caught your attention first. Which one has better eye appeal in your opinion!!!

If you want to go the Sub route, look for the Blue dial it will have a better resale value.
I you are looking to get into a YG Rolex sport watch(tool) for less money try looking for a GMT Black dial, they seem to be at least 1K under the Subs.

Go for the YM.

You will never dive with a YG watch, right?

But you can always be a wiseguy on a boat with a YM.

Good luck whatever you choose.

They're both Rolex watches and both will hold some value because of the branding itself. The Sub is more popular, so probably far easier to resell if you should choose to do so. I am going to have to agree that the value of the watch is not to look at it as an investment for resale, rather it's intrinsic value. Rolex has a long and proud history. The brand is worth more than anything. If you wanted to buy an investment watch in Rolex, it would not be a gold model. They are notoriously bad for losing value compared to the SS sports models.

That said, it's a watch. Buy the one that you would want to wear. I have no intentions of ever selling my Sub, and therefore I could give a rats ass about the resell value of it, much less its monetary investment. For me the watch was an investment because it means something to me. I bought mine as a result of getting a promotion, the fact that I knew it would hold up under most conditions without having to worry about it. Just my thoughts.

Rolex, bottom line, will never be a brand that I view as an investment brand. If I wanted to buy a watch for the long term investment potential, I would look at JLC, PP, Glashuette Original, etc.

Tim, I LOVE the YG YM with white dial! It's not one you see often and is in a class of its own! I prefer the Sub in TT or SS.

For this choice, you have to go based on what looks better to you. You can't worry about about which MAY hold their value better down the road.

Like you said, one MAY be worth a $1000 bucks more later. Big deal. Buy what you like and don't look back!

Hmmm if it was the BLUSEY I would say SUB but I gotta go with the YM!
They're both a Roley and they both have the 3135.
Its really a matter of personal preference, I have the Platinum YM and would never trade it for a TT Sub but thats just me...
