Icon20 15202IP: Should I trade for rolex 116506 platinum Daytona with diamonds???

Hi guys need some advice

I currently own 15202ip and I do love the watch but recently saw the platinum daytona 116506 with baguette diamonds and fallen in love

given the market value for both watches are very similar

Should I direct trade 15202ip for the daytona??

I am aiming to consolidate my collection
Current collection:

Patek 5980/1a blue
RM 030 ti
AP 15407st
AP 15202ip
AP code 11.59 blue chrono v2
AP 26331or blue strap

Yea i'm an AP lover

Getting the high end rolex would complete the set i feel

However, losing 15202ip would probably mean I wont ever see it again.. I am torn

Any help would be much appreciated

thanks so much

I would say drop the code + cash or 26331. Although its a full gold chrono nothing will beat the beauty of a platinum Daytona . you would then have a complete set. The 15202ip is a keeper . As you said if you do trade it, it would be near impossible to get one.

Why not add instead of trading?

If not, would rather move the code or 26331 instead. Would probably take quite a hit on the code though

15202 is QUINTESSENTIAL to an AP collection. Why not sell the version you have now, acquire the 15202ST then use the extra cash from the sale towards the Daytona?

Hmm....sadly I think this is a work harder, expand the budget and add situation!

You have quite a lovely collection. I will say after going fill tilt AP, every time I put on a rolex with ceramic bezel (including platona), it feels like this small weight off my shoulder worrying about wrist presence.

Also, the Platona feels like a two way door, easy to get in and out of that watch, but the IP is a one way door as you have pointed out. I hate closing 1 way doors collection wise.

Asking prices for the 15202ip seem slightly insane, but I still wouldn't trade for the Platona. 15202ip seems more special at every level.

The Daytona does fit that collection better so I would sell an AP but the Code first.

What he said.
Sell the code and the 26331. Both replaceable and you have taken the hit on the code the minute you walked out the door with it.

I actually really like that Daytona....but for my wife as I think it’s too small for my wrist.

Would you consider letting the ip go to help fund the Daytona and replace it with the steel version? Are RMs still hot? I’ve actually lost interest in the brand and no longer follow what’s going on with them, I’d let the RM go too.

To release funds I’d I’d swap the IP for the steel 15202, ditch the RM and buy the Daytona & a Lange Datograph.

You need a beater on that list and a platinum Daytona fits the bill

I would definitely keep the RM. Move the Code and 26331. You can always get them back later.

Problem with getting rid of the code is taking a bath on it. If you’re an AP lover then I don’t know how you can not have a jumbo but man 80k for that is crazy. what about the 5980? Honestly though your collection as is is near perfect for my tastes

The Pt Daytona with baguettes is stunning - but as above, easy to acquire vs. losing something much more special

I wouldn’t trade because 15202ip would be so hard to get again once you make a trade.

Lose the 26331 and top up cash or throw in the RM.

Interesting point of view. In my view the bath was taken the minute OP walked out of the store with it. Now it's worth whatever it is worth and the OP should make decisions based on that (and how much he likes it).

Keep the IP.

And show us a picture of it!

Many of us have never seen one before.

How does the blue dial compare to the standard 15202 dial.

Hard no.

1. If you sell the IP you’ll never be able to replace it. It won’t even be a matter of price, you won’t even find one available for sale. You’ll always be able to find a platinum Daytona - probably even at retail.

2. I’d gladly bet the IP appreciates far more than the platinum Daytona over time.

You think so? I just checked its pricing and its totally crazy right now. Like $100k. Insanity - only way is down ultimately.

The 15202IP, is gorgeous without a doubt, but it simply isn't worth that kind of money.
