DD 36mm Platinum in Ice Blue Dial Roman

I am curious what the audience thinks of this model? and in this size.

DD 36mm Platinum in Ice Blue Dial Roman

Love the 118206, not the romans dial though. Had the ice blue diamond dial on my WG DD but too much bling for me:

My dial of choice would be ice blue with sticks

Love it and considering it for my next watch, but I'd take sticks over romans. Diamonds work too. Not too easy to find these unfortunately.

I thought having a YG DD36 represented the pinnacle for me, and in many ways, it did/does. So I got one, champagne sticks. Love it, it’s exactly what I thought it’d be. Every time I put it on, it makes me happy as only my gold President can.

The only issue with it is that it really is a magnet for attention (not that there aren’t pricier watches out there, but owners know what I’m referring to), which makes me selective about when/where I wear it. There are threads debating whether you can “daily” this watch or that watch, and around here, they’re relatively commonplace. But ultimately, it becomes a personal decision based upon variables such as line of work, position within an organization, visibility, locale, etc, etc. For me, some of the pertinent “factors” became “limiting factors.” And so the YG President doesn’t get the wrist time I’d like at this stage of life (late 30s). But it has a permanent place in my collection, and it won’t be going anywhere.

In comes the 118206. I’d always heard of the platinum President, but even here at the beach in Orange County, they’re uncommon. YG ones are literally daily sightings. As I eventually looked into them out of pure intrigue, it occurred to me that while it may represent the only “step up” in the President line, it actually comes off as far more wearable and casual relative to the YG model- meaning way more potential for daily wrist time. The variety of glacier dials only adds to this notion of Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personalities. (PS: this is widely accepted as the sole reason why fluted bezels have never been affixed by Rolex to platinum models) Another contributing factor may be its potential to be mistaken for a non-noble metal, where a YG DD w a fluted bezel will never achieve that “flies under the radar” capability (see my handle). So I bought a 118206. Mine has Rhodium Romans, creating a super clean and monochromatic look, but which is now almost too plain for me. I’ve even worn it to work and around staff- far more times, in fact, than its YG stablemate. (If anyone knows where I can actually get a factory glacier dial, I’m actively in the market). Point: actual usability, and place in your own collection, will prove to be decision-makers for this model. For my money (and 6.25-6.5” wrists), the 36mm is all I’ll consider for non-professional models. Bummer they don’t have a 128206, mainly for the increased power reserve, but I absolutely love the 118206. Romans tend to support its casual “wear it with Rainbow flip flops” vibe, but to each his own.

Funny story, which only this crowd will likely appreciate (apologies for continuing to indulge me, OP and others): my wife and I were walking our little kids down the street for some ice cream a few weeks back, a Bluesey on my wrist. A guy walking my direction on the sidewalk was wearing a 118206, and I caught a glimpse of the glacier dial (it’s like seeing the roof of an E46 in Laguna Seca Blue ahead of you in traffic, for the BMWphiles out there). As he walked past me, I literally found myself thinking “lucky bastard,” then sheepishly self-realizing that I also have one at home, different only in the slightest variation of hues to the dial. Those moments could be a TRF thread of their own.

fluted bezel actually looks bigger than the polished one.

Well you could get a different color dial through RSC, they will sell you other dial colors were available for your model (but keep your current dial). There are quite a few sources for used genuine Rolex dials, but the glacier / ice blue dials are not easy to come by.

The 118206 is a great piece. I love that it flies under the radar with its platinum color and smooth bezel. Also some of the nicest dials as well

Whatever you decide I would try to obtain one with the newer clasp that has the beak and hook closing mechanism . It’s much sturdier then the older style DD clasps

I really like it. I was close to purchasing one a few months back. In the end, I preferred the sticks. But that is a very nice watch.

Let us know what you decide to do.
