SS Daytona dial change/swap

Hello there!

First post on my side in your lovely community.
After looking for a little while, I finally gave in to the temptation of getting a SS Daytona black dial. Of course, I did not get it from an authorized dealer but from a jewelry place that seems serious.

Now my question, the watch is as described, with a black dial. However, the certification card describes a White Index Dial...
What should I do?
How does the change of dial affect the value of the watch?
Is it ok to change the dials on SS?
If it is ok to change the dial, how important is it to have the original white dial?

I never had to worry about previous Rolex purchases as they were made at a large Rolex official dealer. I am a little concerned about this situation.

Check the serial # by taking off the bracelet at the 6 end. If they match the papers, than somewhere down the line the previous owner probably had the dials swapped out. If the serial # on the watch doesn't match the papers, then their was probably a certificate mix up.

Thank you Mike, the serial number is correct, so the dials got swapped. How critical is it to get the original dial? Does it matter that the dial color doesn't match the certificate, the serial and the bracelet number are matching.

My mom has a ss daytona. She has swatched from black to white to black, I'm not even sure what color it was originaly. I sat find yourself a white dial and keep it in the box. Just in case it effects the sale value (which I doubt) down the road.

Value is a relative thing in your situation. I would think a Rolex that doesn't have all it's original parts would resell less than one which was all original. I would be more concerned though that the existing dial isn't a Rolex made dial. I think if you had a service center statement certifying that all the parts were Rolex, it would not be an issue.

Although I'm kind of a Rolex Purist... i.e. don't think a watch should be altered from its original sales form, I also understand and respect the fact that it's YOUR watch; you paid good money for it, you look at it every day. So, I say don't worry about the value or far-off reprocutions, modify the watch as you see fit so that YOU will best enjoy it!

I would take the watch to an AD and pay a small fee to verify the movement.
I would be real suspicious if the papers didn't match the watch.
can't fake the movement!

Many thanks to all! Luckily I am just a few blocks away from a large AD and the Rolex building...

Just out from the Rolex building...and they gave me the watch back! So they confirmed it is a genuine item. Now what happens is that they can't honour the 2 year waranty as "the watch has been open by someone else than Rolex". Else than that, everything seems to be fine and I will receive an insurance evaluation within a few days.
