Orchi believes these are Rolex Ref 16750 GMT Master Dial Variants..+pics.
Err...to ALL TRF GMT buddies...please spare
Orchi the favour to post your collection of 16750 GMT watches n Dials in here...for comparisons n further discussions that you might have on the subject matter... Thanks for your participation... Best regards Orchi. Orchi believes these here are examples of the earliest 1st Generation... Rolex 16750 GMT Master... With your consideration & permissions... Orchi shall call it the Earliest 1st Generation MK.1 Matte Dial variant. These pictures of 16750 GMT Master MK.1 Dials...are exemplary examples which are excerpt from the VRF Dial Archive... NOTE: 1. Typically these 16750 MK.1 Matte Dial has the Slimmest & Tallest Rolex Coronet... 2. The Coronet is Vertically aligned with "L" of "ROLEX" Plot...n "E" of "O.P E RPETUAL" Plots... 3. The SCOC Plots have the fonts "A" "H" n "C" Vertically aligned as well. 4. This MK.1 Matte Dial Variant is NORMALLY found on 16750 GMT Watch Cases... from about 6.2mil or 1980...to about 8.1mil or 8.2mil series. Posted by Buddy Jas...from 8.17mil SN... Posted by Buddy Faz...from 6mil SN... Posted by Buddy Tim...from 7.6mil SN... Posted by Buddy Christian...from 6mil SN... Posted by Buddy Ashley Bowler...from 6.27mil case with Punched Paper...1980 or so. Orchi believes these here are good examples of the 2nd Generation... Rolex 16750 GMT Master... With your consideration & permissions... Orchi shall call it the 2nd Generation MK.2 Matte Dial variant. NOTE: 1. Typically these 16750 MK.2 Matte Dial has Tall Rolex Coronet also BUT the base of the Crown is broader...NOT as Slim as the MK.1 Coronet. 2. The Coronet is Vertically aligned with "L" in "ROLEX" Plot...BUT they are NOT Vertically aligned with "E" at lower "O.P E RPETUAL" Plots. 3. The SCOC Plots do NOT have the Vertically aligned fonts "A" "H" n "C"... 4. The MK.2 Matte Dial variant is RARELY found on 16750 GMT Watch Cases... from about 8.2mil to about 8.4 in 1983 or 1984 or so...by the end of 16750 GMT Master with Matte Dial production... 5. Interesting to note also that this particular type of Dial has very similar Dial features.... to the ones that were also featured in some the 16750's predecessor 1675 GMT Master watches...seen elsewhere in the VRF n VRM... Orchi's Bare MK.2 Matte Dial... This picture of a 16750 GMT Master is courtesy of Buddy Ben of NBTimes Hong Kong... which comes with Rolex Punched Paper 8.35mil series 16750 GMT Master... (under negotiation)... illustrating the 2nd Generation MK.2 Matte Dial variant... This is a similar MK.2 Dial...(albeit featured to early 6mil watch case) Picture posted by Buddy Haagen...excerpt from the VRF Dial Archive... This is a similar MK.2 Dial...(albeit featured to early 6.3mil watch case) Picture posted by Buddy Mike950...excerpt from the VRF Dial Archive... This is a similar MK.2 Dial... Picture posted by Buddy VintageTime...excerpt from the VRF Dial Archive... Orchi believes this here is a RARE example of the earliest GLOSS Dial with WG Surround Tritium markers...for Rolex 16750 GMT Master... With your consideration & permissions... Orchi shall call these Earliest GLOSS Dial as MK.3 GLOSS Dial variant. These pictures are taken from Orchi's little collection of the... Rolex 16750 GMT Master BARE MK.3 GLOSS Dials... NOTE: 1. Typically this VERY RARE 16750 MK.3 GLOSS Dial has the FATTER Rolex Coronet...with shorter Crown Arches... 2. The EARLIEST GLOSS DIAL for 16750 GMT Master has Plots "OYSTER PERPETUAL"... with NO "DATE" plot on Dial...(RARE FEATURE) 3. The SCOC Plots have the fonts "G" "E" "O" & "R" "E" "D" Vertically aligned. 4. The SCOC n "SWISS-T<25" Plots are in prominent Serif fonts. NOTE: This MK.3 GLOSS Dial Variant is believed to be VERY RARELY found on 16750 GMT Watch Cases... from about 8.3mil..to about 8.4mil series cases or in 1983...ONLY. These here is the same GLOSS Dial Variant for EARLY 16750 GMT Master with... WG Surround Tritium Markers... NOTE: With Obvious signs of Early Flaws of ROLEX Dial printing whereby... ALL WHITE Painted Plots & Indexes show the obvious "Overflowing" or "Bleeding" flaws...on the entire Dial... These here...Orchi believes to be the MK.4 GLOSS Dial for 16750 GMT Master... with WG Surround Tritium markers... NOTE: 1. The Coronet is slightly Taller with wider & longer Crown Arches than MK.3 GLOSS Dial variant... 2. The "DATE" Plot is featured on Dial ie. "OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE"... 3. The SCOC Plots have the fonts "G" "E" "O" & "R" "E" "D" Vertically NOT aligned...as compared with MK.3 GLOSS Dial variant. 4. The SCOC n "SWISS-T<25" Plots have less prominent Serif fonts. 5. This MK.4 GLOSS Dial variant are normally found on Rolex 16750 GMT Master... from about 8.5mil or in 1984...to END 9mil Series cases or in 1986 or so... FINALLY but not last...this here is believed to be the MK.5 GLOSS Dial variant... for Rolex 16750 GMT Master with WG Surround Tritium markers... NOTE: 1. The Coronet is similar to MK.4 GLOSS Dial... 2. The SCOC n "SWISS-T<25" Plots has NO Serif fonts. 3. This MK.5 GLOSS Dial variant is normally found on 16750 GMT Master watches... from END 9 mil series...to or about "R" Series cases...or so.... by the end of 16750 GMT Master production by ROLEX...in 1988. THANKS FOR WATCHING... |

Here is mine Mr Orchi, it's a 1984 serial # 884***. The hands are obviously later and I am not sure if the box is quite the right period, I purchased it separately
I stumbled on to your web blog the other day, very interesting |

Could the S/Nos. of your 16750 be 8,84x,xxx...or 8,66x,xxx...? Anyway...that Dial is what Orchi believes to be 16750 MK.2 Matte Dial variant... which could be possibly featured around the Case Series 8.4mil or in 1984... |

As much as Orchi can recall...the 16750 watch case measures... 1. Overall Height/Thickness from Top surface of crystal to Bottom of Backcase cover is...13mm. 2. Overall Width including Bezel & Crown from left to right is...42mm. 3. Overall Length from case lug to case lug is...47mm. Hopes the above helps... |

Hey all,
I'm the definition of Newbie , this is a post cut from the newbie section. I got given a watch from my father which was bought by my grandfather in 1981. I have the box, receipt, hole punch guarentee... everything in pretty good condition. The sticker on the side of the box says "167570/B". If there is anything else you need to know I am holding the box with all papers now... I'll try and get some better pics Cheers Last edited by Stimp; 6 May 2009 at 10:01 PM.. Nice one! you should replace the glass, quite scratched... but really a nice piece (now expert should tell what they think, i m a newbie too) >Orchi: i know it's a sacrilege but remember i'm a newbie in rolex world: did great Orchi ever see a 16750 without cyclop? i mean does anyone try to have the "readibility" of a seadweller with the beauty of the classic GMT? (please don't burn me down... i am only very curious to see one day this type of customized 16750... thanks for your advice, i know cyclop's lovers will hit the roof but can't see why a 16750 couldn't be without cyclop: you can always replace the cyclop's glass after if you want the original back...or not?) thanks again for all those precious infos, Orchi ;) |

Stimp you are a lucky guy!
i hope i ll find one so good looking someday (when i could ) and after being serviced it will be perfect (but be careful they don't change your dial for a newer one...you should ask experts here how you have to proceed: if asking before to let your original dial or something else...i read of some people with bad surprises on this forum ;) ) anyway, just enjoy your 16750 |

Err buddy Ben...welcome to this World's best Rolex vintage watch forum...
Thanks for posting those nice pictures... However...judging from those pictures that you have just posted in here... Orchi inclines to think...that watch of yours is probably MORE being a Rolex Ref 1675 GMT Master...instead... which happens to be the predecessor of the Rolex Ref 16750 GMT Master... that is being discussed in this thread... IF you would take a closer look at the Hands arrangement of your GMT Master watch... you would notice that the 24hr Red GMT Hand is positioned at the lowest... Now this would mean that your watch could like have the Cal.1570 movement... which is synonymous with Rolex Ref 1675 GMT Master...instead. You would also need to double check with the other related thread about Rolex REf 1675 GMT Master that...would show the positions to the Hands arrangement for the Ref 1675 GMT watches... Also Orchi thinks the Serial Nos. 5.74mil would correspond to those found for Rolex Ref 1675 GMT Master... http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=74976 Right now your watch is seen to be fitted with what looks to be the MK.1 Matte Dial variant... of the Rolex Ref 16750 GMT Master... Now that is strange... |

Awesome, thanks for the feedback ... I did post in the other thread (with no pics, I'll add them now). I didn't wear my watch today, so I'll have a look tonight re the positions of the hands etc. Also, if you work out why I may have the MK.1 Matte Dial variant it would be good to know... but as I don't know the watches history from 1981 - 2003 anything could have happened.
Thanks again Stimp. |

I bought this 16750 brand new and have worn it almost everyday since.
83xxxx.I have bought sold and collected over 50 transitional 16750 and have found original examples with wg dials as low as 832x and have found original examples of matte dial as high as 861xxx.The wg dial came out of an 83xxxx serial box and papers example.

The 2nd variant(lets call it Mk. 3.5) with NO "DATE" WG Glossy Dial is produced by Rolex Dial maker...Lemrich. By comparing it with this Mk.3 WG Glossy Dial without "DATE" plot... one would see the slight variation of the fonts n alignment of SCOC plots... n "SWISS-T<25" plots under the 6 o'clock marker...(Hyphen "-" is right sided.) The 16750 GMT watches having these NO "DATE" plot on Dial...are RARE. |
