Thinking ahead about my collection...and Subs...
So, I'm new here and just started posting a few days ago on your opinion of a DateJust for my first Rolex. While I love the DateJust, I went to my AD and tried on a Sub. I fell in love. It's so classic and instantly recognizable. I've decided on the Two Tone Black dial and bezel. The only reason I didn't buy it yesterday was that the jeweler told me there would be a new model coming out with a ceramic bezel and maxi-dial, like the GMT-II. He advised me to wait, so I am and I'm on the waiting list there. Anyone know when they are supposed to be released?
While there I also tried on the Two Tone with Blue Dial and bezel. The look stunned me and I made the decision that I had to have that one too. While I can't afford both at the same time, I'll have to space out their purchases. My question is this: Is it weird to have two Subs, a black TT and a blue TT, as my first Rolexs? I have considered getting the TT GMT-II in balck, which menas I could go in tomorrow and pick it up, and then get the new Blue TT Sub when it comes out, then I would have 2 different watches, but I'm just not too the big numbers on the GMT-II. I need input. I'm trying to think long-term about starting a collection. Either way, the Yacht-Master in SS and Platinum will be my third watch, so I dunno if that factors into the equation at all too. I'd love any help you guys can offer, and as always pics are encouraged. |

That's a no-brainer. Sub first, without question. The ultimate Rolex
Good luck on your collection! Petter

I think that if you want to be a collector, you need to first decide what focus your collection will take.....

Get a TT GMT IIc and TT blue sub. I have the TT GMT IIc and it's stunning. IMO the classic blue sub is much nicer than the new blue sub if you put a side the glide lock. Two type of watch is better than One type with two different color. Again ... IMO

"Collecting" has different meaning to different people.
In some sense we all have a "collection" as it refers to the quantity of timepieces we have without regard to "theme" or "direction". Some might refer to this as a horizontal collection, i.e....a Rolex, Omega, Panerai, etc... Others might get specific with one brand or section of a brand....Rolex professional/sport watches....GMT, SUB, EXPLORER, and so on. Some "collectors" (though we all are in some sense) concentrate on a specific era, model, or evolutionary path. It really depends on where and how tightly you want your focus to be. Some meager examples from my own collection. Submariners, GMTs, Nothing wrong with "straying" from time to time. |
