Sticker removal or not...that is the question

I currently have a nice Rolex collection of several "choice" watches. At least that is what I am told by AD sales persons when I call to see what they have in stock...I repeat this is a collection...I currently have a Date Just 2019 Blue dial with stickers on it..I'm not sure if it is fully sticker ed..but I decided not to take them off and just keep it as a collectors item, in that condition. Not to wear. I already had several when I bought that one. A nice variety. Now I regret taking the stickers off the first fully sticker ed one when I did. I just didn't appreciate how rare that was. It was a Black dial Milgaus, I repeat fully sticker ed. Wow, they are put everywhere, even places you find days later after you think you've removed them all...I just hope to someday get one like that again...for me I have plenty to wear and the uniqueness of a fully sticker ed one in my collection is like a rare mint never worn or used anything a person would want who has a collection of anything. So my question is, does anybody else feel the same...? Do you have enough to wear, so that a fully sticker ed Rolex would be a collectors item, enough so that you would just keep it that way? Are you a collector that finds it is ok to just have a rare piece that you don't wear and just enjoy having and perhaps checking on every once in a while.? With that said, I have another watch that I will never wear, it was my dads, a Bulova bought @ 1955, still works, he's gone now but the memories of him wearing this watch make it very special...the most rare watch in my collection by far.

Can’t help you much as my view is watches are meant to be worn and anything that isn’t worn should leave my collection to be enjoyed by someone else. Seems unfortunate to me to keep a watch unworn with stickers on just for the sake of it. To each his own though.

Wow, a 2019 blue dial Datejust still with stickers on? That is a are piece, maybe even one of a kind. I think I will be echoing the thoughts of everyone who reads this, by saying that you might want to avoid touching it unless you are wearing Rolex branded anti scratch gloves. And also avoid taking it into direct sunlight or all but the dimmest indoor lighting as these can all take their toll in swiftly degrading the materials that make up these beautiful and rare relics.

Add to the above ... store them at zero gravity (puts less stress on internal parts) . #suchnonsense

Congrats on your collection. Your watches may not be as rare as you’ve been told or come to believe.

Nice watches, yes. Might have to wait a little while to get one, yes. Rare, no. You can go out on any of the trusted boutiques here and purchase without difficulty.

I don’t know if a stickered DJ will be worth that much more 10 years from now, as NOS. But I buy my watches to wear, not as some form of investment to sit in a safe. There are far better investment options out there.

Regardless, enjoy the watches.

I’m not the OP. And you’re clearly just saying all that because you are obviously envious of him owning such a special piece or you are not taking his question seriously.

Probably a troll but if you want to keep stickers on your watch, TV or sofa then why not. It just looks slightly odd to anyone who bothered to look. Obv doesn't matter on resale with those models but nevermind !

If you don't intend on wearing it, I think keeping stickers on is fine. I don't get the idea of doing it with a 2019 DateJust but to each his own.

Sounds like you're treating the watches as an investment rather than "collecting". Trust me, there are a lot better things to invest in than a Black Milgauss or a Blue Datejust. Unsticker those babies and enjoy them.

I wouldn’t really consider a DJ and Milgauss rare but who knows every has their own opinion

As for keeping stickers on? I think it’s silly. I tell my AD to take it all off. Every single of my watches are worn and put through it’s paces whether it’s a Daytona or Timex

Better to park your money in the stock market

Interesting post OP, not sure that a DJ will ever be a collectors item, certainly not in my lifetime.

Its your choice what you do with your watches, for me I prefer to use them as they were designed to be used.

But we're all different and free to do what we want with the goods we buy.

Good grief.

Your watches do what you want with them.

Have to agree with the word rare with Rolex watches today in the real world they are mass produced almost by the million each year. And this stuff today about sticky-back plastic stickers which in the real world should be put in the bin at point of sale. But sadly today many think of Rolex watches as little more than £££$$$ object things.Instead of buying and getting the joy of wearing for many years in good health thats what owning a Rolex should be about..

I’d leave them on as they add additional water resistance...once removed watch is useless...

I would echo this statement. The stickers will help protect the watch from the tears you will no doubt shed, after finding out how rare and expensive it really is.

Nothing rare about your watches, nice but not serious collectible.

I don’t have watches that I don’t wear so no stickers on them

I posted this on a topic about what to do with a new Rolex watch.

If stickers make you happy, that's what counts. You are entitled to enjoy your watch anyway you want. Personally, I doubt that stickers make an unworn Rolex significantly more valuable but I guess if I had the choice between two identical watches, one stickered, one not, I'd pick the one with stickers.

im new to the forum and this may have been discussed before but what if the moderators made a new sub forum section for collectors and investors.

i knew immediately that the OP was going to get flamed and i felt mostly the same way about what he posted until reading some of the comments and reminding myself that even though i just love watches and want to wear any cool watch i can, that there are MANY people who could care less about watches and see rolex as an investment strategy and a very effective one to boot

i would be interested in just about anything that i could buy brand new for 10K and sell the same day probably within hours for minimum 20-30% profit, most likely a lot more than that

Which watch can you go out and buy today and sell for 20-30% profit?

As with other things in life, it’s more pleasurable if a layer of plastic isnt between you and your object of desire.

I get what you’re saying and I might do that if I had an interest in collecting vs wearing....although I personally would find an untouched SD4K.
BUT...I’m a wearer, not a collector.
To each their own, do whatever you like and makes you happy!

If it brings you happiness then absolutely go for it OP.

For me, I’ve never understood the sticker thing. It ruins the enjoyment of wearing the watch.

Rolex took the time to design your watch with polished and brushed surfaces and they are beautiful to look at. Stickers ruin that experience for me, but I understand YMMV

40 years ago, it was kind of a silly game to leave the case back sticker on. I don’t remember any specific reason why but we just did?!

I wear them. Nothing in my collection sits around as a collectible. You may enjoy keeping some NOS with stickers. That’s fine. Several collectors do. But it will be many decades, if ever, that a 2019 DJ is collectible. These are mass produced watches. Enjoy yours!

Some think that collectors and the "investors" hoarding/flipping the current hype pieces are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
