Anyone else starting early with their exercise plan for the new year ?
With lockdown #2 now past and gyms re-open, I’ve been hitting it with a renewed zeal.
Especially with Xmas looking radically different this year, and all the usual work/ family meals out cancelled, and even Xmas at home being massively cut back vs. normal; the typical festive pounds have zero reason to come on, only to be shed again in Jan/Feb. So planning on staying trim right through and act like it’s already Jan 1st. Anyone else already doing / planning the same ?

been a 'gym rat' pretty much my whole life so my 3-4 day a week routine keeps humming along. Trouble is I can no longer throw up 300#'s like I once did, it's all about lighter weight, more reps and cardio !

I really admire the discipline. I tend to be a bit seasonal with things and relax for Xmas + summer holidays, Im sure a part of it for me is quite enjoying the extra focus needed to shift a few lbs. Plan on strength goals in 2021 though, want to get back to some heavier lifting I used to do pre fatherhood, when free time went out the window !

I've been lagging for the past 2 months as other fall activities took precedence outside. Those activities are pretty much over now, so it's time to get back at it.

I changed up my routine to an advanced PPL involving 2 legs days, a push day and a pull day. I added a 5th upper day for higher reps lower weight. Almost a hybrid power building routine. I want to try and get on stage in the spring for men’s physique over 40. I have made quite the transformation in the last 10 years. Hopefully I can add 10 pounds of quality lean mass over the winter and be where I want.

All over it.
But I do this all year round. Never stop, but sometimes I’m more intense. Ratcheting up the intensity now. It’s time.

Push, pull, legs is my standard format too when I’m in a regular routine. I find this to be a real optimum methodology for me. Hitting legs twice is a nice bonus as you do it too. Otherwise if only twice per week it’s full body on each occasion

Same ole for me: run 5k every other day and some light weight training. Consistent and predictable, that’s how I roll.

I was hitting the gym regularly.... and now it’s closed... again. I have started running outside (as opposed to on a treadmill in the gym) anyone else like me find it MUCH harder running outside? On the treadmill, I can push it and do a couple miles easily, adjusting speed and incline to make it hard as I go along. I ran outside this morning, I was lucky to finish a mile before dying; and it wasn’t exactly a fast pace either. On the treadmill I start at 6MPH and work my way up to 7.5 (or even more) by end of the run. Outside this morning? I was lucky to do a 10-minute (6MPH) mile.

I got inspired by @daveathall’s simple setup of Concept 2 bike and rower. Got the bike last week and just waiting on the rower. Legs are so sore! Been jump-rope skipping every other day lately too, instead of running so much. I highly recommend the skipping; the impact on the joints isn’t very hard IME, but it is an intense cardio workout. Saving the running (and my feet and knees) just for the tennis court now.

Been getting 45 miles a week in on my mountain bike consistently even with the weather cooling down here in MI. Was getting 70+ in when it was a bit warmer. No plans on stopping or slowing down any further though. 24.4 miles in yesterday, hopefully another 20 today tomorrow and Saturday if the weather stays in the 40s. It’s tough to get started when it drops into the 20s though.

Try to keep a regular excerise regime all year round
Don’t see the reason to slack off Oct - Dec only to have to start back up in new year Even in lockdown 2/ tier system in Scotland- still doing lunchtime walks/ cycles & a routine of light weights/ press ups/ sit-ups etc in house |

My schedule has been turned on it’s head thanks to my oldest’ new year round soccer club. They’re practicing 3x per week outside. And including travel it’s a 3.5-4.5hr per time endeavor. I hope to figure out something better for 2021.
And yes, I make her wear a .... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My main exercise is playing hockey.
But now with the rink closed I just go to the grocery store and body check old ladies into the the display products. But I always wear a mask. I'm not a complete jerk.

We recently expanded the home gym and I have embarked on a beginner weightlifting program. First time using a barbell! Lots of Youtube videos later and I haven't maimed or incapacitated myself. My wife does some light weightlifting as well but is more cardio focused. Still using the rower once or twice a week as well.
