The Thought Process

Hey Guys

I'm seriously thinking about selling my GMT II Pepsi and Sea-Dweller and chopping these in for a brand new s/s platty yacht-master with some cash left over.

Good choice or bad.

What's your thoughts people?

I think you could regret this as you have two classic watches. However if you don't have an affinity to your watches and really feel the urge to have a y/master and need the cash get what you want

personally, I wouldn't do it. But you gotta do what makes YOU happy. IMO those are 2 great watches and I wouldn't think twice about keeping them and just saving if you really want a platty.

Why not sell one and then save for the balance of what's needed to get a SS/Plat YM? You'd have a great pair!

Who am I to give you advice as I just sold my Datejust and Omega Speedmaster to fund my SS Yacht-Master.
I dont regret it at all (the Datejust and Omega were only worn maybe 5-10 times since I got my GMT II which was 4 years ago).
Think about it long and hard the SS Yachty is still in production where as the GMT II Pepsi and original Sea-Dweller are not...
Also if you opt for a used SS Yacht-Master you can get it in the high 4000's to low 5000's (this way you might not have to sell both watches just sell one and save up a grand or so).

I really go hot and cold on the YM, one minute I really like it, the next I think it's too much. That said, I think I'd prefer to have the watches you presently have over a YM.

I'm not personally a YM fan.....

But trading, collecting, and getting the watch you like to put on your wrist every day is what this passion is all about.... So, if the YM is the watch for you...go for it........

My YM is the one watch that I only like when I am wearing it. When it is in the safe, I don't give it a lot of thought. But, when I strap it on, it does bring a smile. Go figure.

You may regret that move....selling both (and they are classics) to fund a new YM.

If I were in your shoes and desperately wanted a YM, I would try to sell one and find a slightly used YM. From what I have seen the YM depreciate fairly quickly. I have seen
couple year old ones in the $5-6K USD range.

Keep thinking about it!!!

I would not do it, more is better when it comes to Rolex. Now all that changes if you only wear one and the other is a safe queen and never gets used.

I wouldn't do it either. The Pepsi and the SD are classics. The YM imo is nice, but it will never be a classic.

Keep what you have, and save up for the YM. You will regret selling a GMT and SD, I guarantee it.

I agree with the others who state it's what makes you happy, but my opinion is keep the GMT II and the SeaDweller. Both great watches. I'm not a fan of the Yacht-master personally.

I have recently become very attracted to the SS/Plat YM.. thanks JJ. Do it man, you won't regret it. I tried on the YM again today in the AD, and all I have to say is WOW.

Update

Hey Guys

Thank you for all your input so far.

I forgot to mention that I also own a Sub LV and a GMT IIc, both of which I won't be selling, but it was the pepsi GMT II and the Sea-Dweller that got me to thinking about selling these 2 to buy a Yacht-Master S/S Platty and have some funds left over to play with.

I bought all 4 of my Rolexes over a 1 year period when the times were good with the economy, etc, but it's got me thinking that maybe 3 Rolexes are just right for me and to have 1 real nice dress watch like the Yacht-Master would do just the job.

I have my offers in for the SD and GMT II and just have some decisions to make now.

I appreciate all of your input!

No way!

The YM would be bottom of my list of all three.

Both the GMT and SD are classic Rolex icons...the YM...meh!

This makes me wonder...is it the JJ factor?

The YM gets a lot of love here but decidedly more so since the loony kiwi sold that LV and bought the platty again.

Prior to that, there wasn't that much said here about the YM.

Can JJ swing Rolex purchasing trends?

PS if the OP wants a dress watch...keep the GMT and SD and save for a 2nd hand OD or datejust!

Good pointers Jim!

I would actually love to hear JJ's contributions brought to the table
