To part with the 14060M or not
Well, it seems my 14060M I bought in 2016 was one of the best investments I've made so far. Bought for $4700 in 2016, box and papers, F serial, 8-9/10 condition.
Lately, I've been toying with the idea of parting with it and using the funds + not much additional added to buy a new 124060. Pros - Values are at an all-time high. - New watch, warranty. - 41mm vs 40mm case Cons - The watch has sentimental value. I met my wife the day I bought it. - It is in very good shape and keeps very good time for a 2001 watch. - Potential wait at an AD for a 124060 It really comes down to a sentimental value vs. upgrade argument. I don't know how long this appreciated value is going to last. Before anyone asks, I haven't explored actual/forecasted wait times for the 124060. I've been given a very favorable introduction to an AD that a group of friends uses and have bought about 20 watches from in the last 5-7 years. I've only expressed general interest to them. Haven't worked out the brass tacks yet. Decisions, decisions. |

What means more is the real question here I believe..
Sentimental value or money? For me, sentimental value means more than money. Money can be obtained, the sentimental value of the watch will be lost, potentially forever. Personally I would keep the watch. And also, what a lovely watch! Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk |

Keep it! Selling a Rolex like that should be a very last resort. You will thank us in years to come.

I'm seeing this is one-sided thus far. Beginning to see the point. I'll let the full jury weigh in but I am seeing the trend.
I guess with cash burning a hole in my pocket maybe a nice full service is in order for the 14060M |

I think it depends on how much sentimentality you and your wife actually attach to it.

Would not make sense to me to replace your watch with a new one. Plenty of memories attached to it over the years. I would just buy another to add if you’re itching for a new watch.

How she feels about you upgrading it ? You can build new memories with your wife and the new Sub.

The new one is nice, but no way for me. There will never ever be a Sub with lug holes again.

She's currently a little "Rolex crazy" after I got her a Silver/pink/Arabic OP31 for Christmas, though. That may be a factor at the moment. |

I too bought a 14060M in june 2016. I traded it for a new 114060 in Nov'17 at my then AD and did real well on that deal however started to miss it badly as time went on and had to replace with another one in Aug'19. I do love both but I know if I had to choose one to keep it would be the 14060M. Happy Choosing...

I wouldn't. Sentimental value means so much more to me. I have a few pieces I would never sell because they have special meaning. My most recent one was getting the call from my AD for a blue DJ41 on my wedding anniversary. Having a warranty card with my wedding anniversary date is something to cherish.

Having purchased it the day you met your wife is not exactly a cut and dried sentimental watch unless you have always thought of it that way or you met her while actually buying it...and it sounds like she doesn't make the connection.
I'd set that part aside and keep it just because it is a cooler watch than the new one that anybody with deep pockets can buy. Sent from my SM-T830 using Tapatalk |

I’d keep it. And maybe a new modern Rolex to pair with it to scratch the itch for something new rather than trade “up” for a new version of same model.

Sentimental Value trumps all money.
I had a 16200 that was my first Rolex, landed a great job and decided to celebrate it with a generous gift to myself. A Y Serial black stick dial on an oyster bracelet. Few years later after accumulating more watches, stopped wearing the 16200 and decided to get a 114270. Sold the 16200 for more than what was originally paid for it and got the 114270. To this day, I regret selling that watch. If I ever found it again in the depths of this nation complete with box and papers bearing my name from 2003, I would pay just to have it back in my hands. Don't do it. |

I wouldn't do it. But it sounds like maybe your wife is okay with it? Maybe let her know about it's connection to her and if she supports you then explore it. But for me, wouldn't be something I would entertain, the sentimental value supercedes everything else.

Sentimentality aside and 'all time high value' aside, I would keep it just because it's a nicer watch.

I would say keep it for a variety of reasons. Mainly being the sentimental value attached to it, you can’t really replace that. In my opinion the five digits are about as good as it gets as well. The new ones are nice and all, but I don’t think you can really beat the five digit.
