Explorer II Anniversary

Tried searching, as I'm sure this has been asked before — but what does everyone rate the probability of a new Explorer II this year? With the anniversary and push towards ceramic bezels, it seems like the time is nigh.

Proposed rumored mockups look stunning.

If they left it alone but added a trip lock crown I’d be all in

Adrian at Bark&Jack is 100% sure there will be a new one this year. I think he’s right. What it will look like, only Rolex knows for sure. I think a glacier blue dial would look good.

That would be a nice upgrade.

I'd also like to see some green to signify the 50th anniversary.

I’m with @brandea. The Exp II looks best without a ceramic bezel IMHO. I’d like to see it stay a field watch and not another GMT variant. Bring the size back to 39-40mm and I’m very interested.

Hoping it would be PM rather than ceramic

The rumor from my AD is it will be housed in the new 41mm case the submariner was released in September. I think that would be an excellent upgrade.

I assume you regularly dive down 400ft? I think the watch is proportioned correctly given its very large face and case.

Someone mentioned adding green. How about the current watch with a Milgauss crystal?

I feel the bezel to dial proportion in the mockup photos make the bezel look a bit thin compared to the dial, especially with the polar. Nothing green nor anniversary about it, but I still think the steel bezel works best with the Exp2. At least that still sets it apart from the rest of the models.

Wish they brought it back in 40mm.

I hope they keep the brushed stainless. Ceramic is too shiny and is overrated.

I made some predictions a while back on the 2021 50th Anniversary Explorer II in the below post:

I'm hoping they stick to the non ceramic bezel.

I think it loses its identity with a non silver bezel. Even if they go to ceramic bezel I think they should still keep it silver.

No, I don't even swim

To me the trip lock serves two other important things:

1. Aesthetics. It looks more proportionate to the 42 mm case size than the smaller twin lock.

2. Because its larger, its easier to use.

Now that nearly all the Professional range has a ceramic bezel, the Explorer 2 has become stylistically interesting for being different, as a result of not changing.

They can change it any way they like. I've got mine so I don't care. If it goes ceramic I think the 40 and 42mm brushed bezel models will do very well in the popularity and value stakes.

I suspect that Rolex won't drop the ball with the Explorer.

I believe the Explorer II is going to get an update this year. I am not sure what that looks like but it will be interesting. It would take a lot to move me off my two Explorer II's.

I can see defiantly see it getting the new movement and usually when Rolex does that they change the design some what.

Like they’re going to take a dial reserved for the best of the best (platinum Daytona and DD) and put it on a steel watch of that price point? Keep dreaming

Those picture look like a Tag Heuer. I’m actually a fan of Tag Heuer but I know many here are not. Interesting that many will jump on a bandwagon just because of the name on the dial. We will see..

That’s a downgrade.....bezel will be much for fragile and break a lot easier

Part of me thinks the ceramic bezel looks good on the polar and then another part of me thinks it a bit comical. Definitely do not like it on the black

Metal > Ceramic bezel

Put it on the 41mm case, add a better crown and a green GMT hand. Job done.

I prefer they keep it the way it is. Just movement change and slight dial change to look more similar to the 1971 version.
