Discount from AD?

It’s been about 4 years since my last purchase from an AD(Deepsea), I negotiated 10% off MSRP and paid via check. (First purchase with this AD)
To date I’ve purchased from four AD’s, each time except one I was able to negotiate a discount.
Is this still an ongoing practice or has this subsided along with display cases full of professional models?

On steel pieces no.

On precious metal pieces, maybe. I’ve received discounts in the 10% range on PM pieces within the last year.

Some AD will and some won’t, don’t know unless you ask :-)

All professional models are now allocated, so no discounts on allocated pieces, regardless of SS and PM. I got 10% off PM last year, but that was last year.

I am considering a DD, and my AD said we can order, but no discount.

The market is changed from 4 years ago. Huge demand with very little supply.

Even 12 months ago Datejusts were being offered at a decent 10% discount - including the allegedly hard to get blue DJ41.

That all changed in around May 2020 and everything (at least in my part of the world) from OP to Day-Date is waitlist only. In fact, the vast majority of waitlists (or Wishlists as they call them) are closed. Even the coloured OPs have a minimum spend requirement to get on the wishlist.

It's all just completely ridiculous.

hahahaha pretty much

Just over the last weekend I visited the 4 ADs in my city. A big fat ZERO discount on any Rolex. Doesnt matter what model SS/TT or Solid Gold.

They said they are just being honest with me and they sell each piece at full MSRP price. No need to discount any Rolex these days.

These are the same ADs that used to give me 20%+ discounts in 2016 and before that.

Yes talk about a sellers market for Rolex. Went to a local AD today and the cupboards were bare on any sport models. No pieces, no discounts, no ETA on waitlist. Walked across to the local AD for Omega - BlancPain - Panerai - and before I sat down it was 20% off. Was tempted on impulse to pickup a Fifty Fathoms due to the fact I could try on a couple pieces and have a conversation with the salesperson but still holding out hope for a BLRO for another year...

Maybe 10% on gold or two tone... at this point the ADs are also on a waiting list from Rolex. So they use that as an excuse to not discount.

If you don't ask you don't get. If you ask you sometimes get.

My AD is generous with discounts and this used to include Rolex. It doesn't at the moment for obvious reasons. But I always ask.

Always ask for a discount.

The price Rolex sets is just a suggestion

My AD told me he would give me a 'good discount' on a Platinum DD at any time that I would want to get one.
(I can't afford it!)

You can ask the rhetorical question.

It's an uncommon practice across all ADs to provide you any incentives other than a pen.

The day after 2019 Basel, I walked into an AD in LA looking for an Explorer II, which was a reference you would commonly see in the case.

At the time, the polar was becoming more and more popular but the AD had both a black and white Explorer IIs in the case and without asking offered one at $7,600 "out of the door". I got the polar.

Not even 2 years later the same reference is now selling as a premium like all other SS.

To get a discount on a PM it might be 5% if and if you have spent lots of$$$$$ and have a great respect by your AD manager.

You are getting a discount by paying RRP for a SS professional model. You can try asking your AD for more discount and they can politely refer you to the grey market.
