Rolex Datejust 16203 with a fluted bezel?
This is my first post on this forum and let me just say that I have enjoyed this site for a long time.
Now here is my dillemma...I recently purchased a preowned Rolex Two Tone Datejust. I purchased this from Portero and the watch was certified authentic by Tourneau. This watch has a jubilee bracelet and a fluted bezel. However, when the bracelet was removed to verify the model number, the model of the watch is 16203. If I am not mistaken, a 16203 signifies a polished bezel and not a fluted one. So why does my watch have the wrong kind of bezel on it? My first thought was that I bought a counterfeit watch. However, I took the watch to two authorized dealers and both of them said that the movement was authentic. Their watchmakers opened the case and verified the movement. I just can't explain this! Have any of you seen this before where the model number does not match the watch? Do I possibly have a really really good counterfeit that fooled two authorized dealer watchmakers? Or maybe I have a Rolex error watch, where the wrong model number was engraved on the case? I have the option to return and am debating whether I should. If I have an error, the watch may be worth something. On the other hand, if it is a counterfeit, I want my money back. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

I don't think you have a fake. Someone probably changed the bezel - it happens all the time. On a Datejust it looks like the bezel is part of the case, but it's not, it can be swapped.
It's still grounds for returning the watch, but if you really like it and got it at a good price, you can get a replacement and have it installed by your watchmaker. |
