Two no date Subs or flip the old one?
Chaps, I have ended up with two no date Subs in my small collection.
I bought a tritium 14060 towards the end of last year but unexpectedly got the call for the 124060 this month. I have a 16570 polar alongside the two Subs in my Rolex collection. The polar is a keeper and the new sub is not going anywhere either - it’s my sub :) As superb as the 14060 is, it’s certainly a bit redundant. It’s also very collectible and a great example though, so I’m torn whether to just keep or flip into something else. The value of the 14060 plus a bit would get something very nice now, or I could hold out for something from the AD and sell the 14060 to fund it at the time. What do you think? |

Do you wear the 14060? Is there another piece that you're looking to get? If money isn't an issue I would wait until the AD calls with something else you may want and could put the 14060 money towards it.

Well, I would like a BLNR or BLRO at retail but I’m not holding my breath on that.
I’ve been thinking about 5 digit GMTs too. Then again, I already have a GMT function in the 16570. A very nice dress watch, perhaps away from Rolex, is always crossing my mind but not sure it’s worth it. |

No way from me.
Completely different watches. However as you said if there’s something else you like and wish to trade it for definitely the best move in my experience, but wait till you’re sure of something you really really want not just for the sake of it. I have loads of watches I don’t wear, no harm sitting around in my opinion! |

I would keep the 14060 and wait, its not going to decrease in value and if you see a watch that appeals to you in the future then you can use the watch to fund all or part of the purchase.
Patience is the key word here.

For me I had a 14060 and 114060 at the same time; the 114060 was sold as it felt uncomfortable on the wrist.

Hold on to both for now. Wait until another “must have” piece comes into the picture.

Keep both you will miss the simplicity of the 14060..and the prices are climbing..it will be harder to repurchase if you miss it.

Which one feels better on your wrist? I’d start there

Is the 14060 getting much wrist time? Speaking from my own experience, I certainly enjoy the subtle differences from one reference to another. I have numerous Subs and recently let go a 16610 to help fund my kids education. While I certainly don’t mind helping out my kids, I do miss the Sub as it was a very clean example with all the goodies. So I guess my point is, you won’t quite know if you will miss it until it’s gone. If you can see yourself without it then by all means sell it or trade it in for another piece. My vote would be to keep it. Good luck

Lugholes of the original are too good to replace.

Too redundant in a small collection, IMO. If your collection were larger it might make sense to keep both.
I'd keep whichever sub you like best. |

I have both a 5 digit and 6 digit Sub. I find they ware and present very differently. I enjoy them both equally. So +1 to keep both, not redundant IMO.

I think you might regret selling the 5 digit, they are very different watches, 5 digit VS 6.

Keep what you already have and go on the waitlist for BLNR/BLRO.
If you need money later, just sell it at that time.

If you’re considering selling and want to venture out to other brands.. how about the new Speedmaster which will add another iconic piece to your collection or one of the examples from the new JLC Master Control range? Depends on your budget but the JLC Master Control Chronograph Calender seems like one hell of a watch which can be dressed up more than your current watches.

I think it makes sense to keep it until (if) I ever get lucky again with the AD. I’ll then decide whether to sell to fund or keep and add.
I have a couple of other watches besides the Rolexes, inc a Speedy FOIS - the new Speedy is very nice but no more near duplicates needed :) |
