IDUSTRY NEWS: New Basel Rolex prices....
I apologized if this was already posted on TRF. I have been gone for a couple of days.....
I left out the bling pieces such as the Daytona's and Masterpieces. I expect a price increase but this is pretty ridiculous. Source: Hannes |

I am going to have to agree with JJ.
At these prices your options can vary. I don't know if I should hate or love Rolex for this. Now it has open the flood gates to a variety of different brand and models. |

Based on the price of the SS GMT IIc (which the new subs are comparatively priced) it should enter at or around 7,000 USD. Way too expensive. I believe that 6k for the watch is already too much, but I'm biased because I paid less than 4k for it 5 years ago.

And if that's the case, I would suspect Rolex may not be around for much longer. Their SS lines are supposed to be the reasonable ones., and if people are too broke to buy them by next year, Rolex, and just about everyone would be in really, really bad shape.

I don't think it's a question of being to afford the watch. At these new price points I can see better ways of utilizing my money. Don't get me wrong, I love my Rolex, but for a SS watch, I'm just not interested in paying the new prices for them. So, in turn, you won't see me in line in the first place. I'll wait for them to show up on the secondary market when they are more inline with the price I'm willing to pay.

The bottom DDII with the baguette diamonds proves that you can add diamonds to things and make it leaps and bounds better!
Still wouldn't buy it, not in YG anyways, but that is nice. |

Yeah, it does make good sense... 7k for SS Sub is a little too painful.

I disagree. It may be that way in the first 4 months, but afterward, I would not be surprised to see it follow the patterns of the SS GMT IIc and DeepSea Sea-Dweller.

The thing is, though, that while Rolex may increase the prices, so is everyone else.
Heck, when Rolex raises it 10%, Patek says "Oh yeah? Well anything you can do..." and raises it 20%. It's an industry wide thing right now. |

Yeah, but comparing it to Patek is like comparing apples to oranges. Patek produces just over 1/50th the number of watches that Rolex does. It is estimated Rolex produces around a million watches per year, while Patek produces around 20k. There is a huge difference that these numbers games can play.

Be advised that the prices in Euros never equate to ours here in dollars.

Someone else posted the price list in USD, too lazy to dig for it, but if I recall correctly it was $10,400.

Don't be deceived.......Times are tough in the USA, but there are still people with money that pay top dollar for luxury items. I doubt very seriously if Rolex will be hurting. They will sell the stink out of some watches regardless of the price. It is only the savvy WIS that knows what they cost 5 years ago and is upset about the price.

Hopefully they'll have a hiatus from another price increase. I could understand if Rolex did a cost of living adjustment (e.g., inflation adjustment) of about 2-3% per year (with none this year), but at 10% per price increase is just getting absurd. Again, in my not-so-humble, humble opinion.
