Brand new Sea-Dweller Deepsea dinged --what's the best way to fix?

Hi all, first time Rolex purchaser here for please accept my apologies for being a newbie on this forum. I recently purchased a Sea-Dweller Deepsea, and have already received a small ding/dent on the edge of the case :(

My question to you all -- what's the best way to get this repaired when the time is right? I understand the there are mixed views on polishing, but does laser welding work for something like this? How much does something like that cost?

My last question would be around how this effects the watch's value. Not trying to sell anytime soon, but part of the reason I purchased this watch is that I thought it could hold value decently well. Any idea here?

Thanks for the help guys -- really appreciate it.

FYI: the ding is on the top right side of the case, above the crown (might not be immediately obvious).

You can have it welded. Do a search on TRF for the best places to have it done. It’s a pretty amazing process when done right the results are amazing.

Looks brand new to me. The first ding always hurts. Keep wearing it and you won’t even notice it. You already paid enough for that watch. IMO laser welding something that small would be waste of money. You’ll have more songs if you wear the watch - it’s a tough existence to chase every ding and scratch!

I understand how this could bother you seeing it's your first Rolex but soon you wont even think about it. Just slap it back on your wrist and get ready to see a lot more scratches and dings in the future.

It's a very, very minor ding and, if you wear it daily, it won't be the last. Laser welding can definitely repair dings beautifully, although I think you need to have it done on a quote-by-quote basis. A polish for something that small probably would not remove a terrible amount of metal, although the edge might not be as 'sharp'. Another option is brushing the ding so it has the same brush patterns as the top of the watch and doesn't reflect light quite as funky as it does now? (I would not do that as a DIY job though and instead go to someone skilled.)

If I were in your shoes, I really wouldn't sweat it. As soon as it gets repaired it is getting marked up some more unless you only wear it on rare occasions. If you polish it every time you get a mark, you eventually will run out of watch!

My advice, quit taking close up photos and just wear it until it needs more help or service. I have the JC Deep Blue and discovered a couple of dings on it recently. Doesn’t stop me from enjoying it or keeping it in as good condition as I can...

Its a tool watch in stainless steel. Wear that puppy and enjoy every scratch and dent you put on it.

Theres a ding?

From what i've seen, any form of polishing/repair will effect the value
Might be a little devaluation if its well done, but could be a large on if you cheap out on it

If you plan to wear it every day you either need to cover it in stickers to protect from scratches (the stickers dont protect your from ridicule though) or make peace with the idea that a hunk of SS on your wrist is going to show signs of wear over time

Maybe try and ding it on the other side of the case next time, so it matches?

I wouldn’t sweat it. As you wear the watch it will fade into the character and patina you put on it. I put a bigger ding on the exact same lug last week working in my shop (116710 BLNR). I shrugged, it’s makes it my watch, and that ding will remind me of the 80 pound vice that almost crushed my foot.

I’m always relieved to get the first ding or scratch. That means I can stop being nervous about getting the first ding or scratch. That’s when you start truly wearing it and enjoying it.

I got a pre owned SD that had two real dings so I would not worry, and can wear it every day. Even when I am doing something dangerous for a watch. Like diving!

Think about it this way. If you weld every ding, how will that affect your return on investment.

Awesome ding, now you will have a story to pass down to whoever you pass it down too on how you dinged it.

My risk versus reward barometer tells me to leave that alone and enjoy your watch.

It can’t be polished out without removing material and is a little insignificant to consider laser surgery.

But it is your call.
