Newbie to AP - first watch?

Hello all, I have a modest collection of Rolexes, a Speedmaster, and a few Cartier pieces. I’m ready to step up to an AP as I’ve always been in awe of them. Love the wrist presence and the beautiful bracelet so will be looking to purchase my first AP soon.

I have a 7” wrist and have never tried on any of the APs. It’s impossible to find one in the store so will be looking for one in the grey market.

What would you recommend as a first AP for a 7” wrist? Anything to look out for? Any inputs would be much appreciated. Thanks!

7 inch wrist means you should be able to pull off most models. 41mm RO and ROC should be fine. 38mm ROC if you prefer or the older 39mm RO. Offshores of 42/44mm variety (and the new 43mm) will also probably be fine depending how you like to wear a larger watch.

Comes down to style preference and budget ultimately.

7inch wrist is substantial, I would recommend 41mm+, can go for RO, ROC and ROO, lots of choices! Or if you want be different and have the budget, the Code Chronos are very nice too.

7" wrist will look good on any model from 38mm RO to 44mm ROO.

I’d go for 15500st or AP diver for first AP. As they are more delicate than rolex.

Go to diamond district, try lots on for size first before obsessing over photos. I loved, loved the design of the 26315St white dial blue sub dials every time in photos, but simply too small for me on the wrist.

Agree, with a 7" wrist most everything will fit - makes life easy or expensive, depending on point of view.

You can pretty much pull off all AP models.

To simplify things. You should break the different models down into different categories. Do you want a dressier watch (RO)? A dressier Chrono watch (ROC)? Chunky sport watch (ROO) or expensive complication (perpetual calendar)? Once you choose a category then you can decide on size, metals and colors. You can ask members with 7” wrists to post wrist shots once you make your decision just to be sure. At 7” you should be fine except for possibly a 44 mm ROO but even that may be doable.

44mm ROO on 7" wrist. Sorry for the rubbish picture. it's large (and it's supposed to be), but case/strap fit ok. Smallest I find ok for me is the 38mm chrono.

Another wrist shot, 41mm on 7" wrist (why is the bracelet not sized properly, you ask? Well, it's not mine ):

I have a 7"+ wrist and love the 38mm chrono. I can easily wear 41 or even 44 but the smaller size dresses it up a bit for me, which I love.
