DD vs DDII

I went to the Century City Tourneau and tried on both models. The DD was as beautiful as ever. It was a whole lot heavier than my SS Datejust, I like that. What stood out was the sharp edges. I know I wouldn't cut myself on them, but I kind of wish Rolex would soften the edges a bit. The DDII did not endear itself to me at all. It just didn't seem like a Rolex: I guess it just hasn't entered into my Rolex lexicon yet. It's too large and strangely enough, the bracelet was smaller than the DD. Anyway, I'll continue to hold a spot in my heart for the YG Day Date!

I love the YG DD with the white roman dial, classy. Know what you mean about the DDII, doesn't float my boat either. If, and thats a big if, I had the money for an 18KT Rollie, Id get one of the Pro models.

There was a Hollywood type with his personal assistant looking at a YG Subbie, and it was pretty darn sharp. That would be a nice Pro Model to get in solid gold.

Holy Old Thread Bat Man

Yup, sorry for bring up an oldie but still would like to hear what people think now that time has passed and we have had a bit more time to see it.

I recall when Otto first looked at the DD II he said it seemed a bit unbalanced and perhaps would be more suited for a BIG guy BUT look at Otto now with the BEAUTIFUL DDII White Dial and Romans.

I looked long and hard at a DD ll with a white face and had my 36 mil watch on my wrist to compare.

The DD ll just doesnt move me one iota. If it did I would have one.

Rolex didnt design the watch well in my opinion, it just doesnt have the look that the DD has. They increased the bezel to 41 millimeters but didnt compensate elsewhere. Something just is off when I look at it.

Maybe there will be a future redesign and it will push my buttons as my current YG white face roman numeral DD did when I went shopping.

I'm a big fan of YG DD but the one below isn't bad either.

What was it that didn't grab you?
Did it feel too sporty for a dress watch or
did it just feel all around "off"?

Part of me wants a RG or YG and a Plat.
I am wondering if I should consider one in DD for formal use and the other in DD II for sporty use.

I have a 7 3/4" wrist and the DD II fits better on me. But getting used to it was easy as I already have an Omega 45.5mm PO and Zenith 44mm Grand Classe Elite.

You can't go wrong with any decision.

I choose the DJII over the DJ just because it felt better to me. I'm 6' 3" and 7 3/4" wrist so it just seemed to work better for me.

If I were to get a DD I would have to reconsider my options then, however I might get a DDII for the very reasons I got the DJII.

Having worn both the DD and DDII, I can assure you the bracelet is more substantial on the DD II. That's one of the things I like about it.

Very true, indeed, Otto.

In fact, the DDII's bracelet is termed the "Super President" by Rolex, as noted in the Day-Date brochure that is available on the Rolex website.
