RSC Enquiry - will this ding polish out?

Hello, i'm thinking of purchasing a yachtmaster 37mm rodium. I've been on the waitlist for a while now and one has popped up and i'm thinking of purchasing.

My questions is, will the marks on this watch (mainly the dings on the top lugs) be able to be removed by RSC when it goes in for a service.

Also, i've heard the platinum bezel can be refinished, does anyone have any info on how it would go looking at the condition of the watch?

Also, due to the condition I can get it a couple grand under retail.

That ding on the lug would get me a bit worried although most likely salvageable. But the rest of the watch is definitely a non-issue. You can inquire at a RSC. I had a nasty gouge along the polished part of my GMT clasp. Went to the RSC and they were confident they could fix that during service.
Oh and the bezel can and will be restored. There was a photo thread on such job here somewhere...

I would contact Mike at Rollieworks instead. Perhaps LA Watch Works also.

Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for sharing what RSC told you on your gouge. Yeah if it's not salvageable i'll probably be having second thoughts on getting it and just keep waiting on the list.

Hey, heard a lot of good things on the forum about them. Unfortunately i'm in Australia. if I was in the USA it would make things less complicated.

If the dings were not polishable, it probably wouldn't be worth it to me to put the time and effort in on this watch.

I just read that you have not purchased this watch yet. If that’s the case I would wait for a clean one, repaired watches are never guaranteed to have factory finish or shape. Definitely not worth it in my opinion

I can only speak for RSC here in the UK. My sub was battered up from daily wear. Went in for a service last year and came out looking great. Doesn’t look too deep a ding to me, so they should be able to make it look like new.

I would’t worry too much about the ding as can always be corrected with laser welding. On the scratches of the Platinum bezel that can be sandblasted and restored. I sent mine to LA Watchworks and they did a great work on it (think paid like $150) :





So as long as you get a good price would say go for it.

Those very miniscule digs will polish out, you should have seen my working tool SD after years of hard work and sometimes abuse over many years underwater. Think most of today's Rolex wearers would of had a heart attack, but all rectified after RSC service and now over 20 years old.

Thanks, Peter! I was going to say the same; nothing there that won't disappear in a normal service. If it's a good price and you can live with the imperfections or want to get it serviced anyway then it's a no brainer!

If it's a deeper dent or ding, even a polish / touch up by RSC will likely not remove it 100%, but it'd be as good as it gets; probably barely noticeable.

Yeah true, i've had a few watches serviced by rolex and they all came back perfect. In saying that, there was only superficial wear on them, and nothing deep at all.

Very similar to the ding on your 6th picture. I don’t have any before or after photos, but they got that out.

Ive read elsewhere that RSC will polish to remove all dents/dings which may not be ideal. For example If you have a ding that goes 3 units deep, they would remove metal that deep on all 4 lugs to keep it symmetrical.

But then again others have said that RSC can laser weld which would fill a deep dent before polish meaning they don’t have to take off so much material to keep it symmetrical.

Overall RSC is capable of doing the best and closest to factory finish, but results may vary.

If you havent purchased yet, your most predictable outcome would be to find a piece you’re happy with that doesnt require refinishing. Shouldnt be hard for this reference.

True thanks for your thoughts. Yeah talked to RSC in Aus and they don't do lser welding there, so it's polish or bust

To me it does. I can't tell that it looks any different to when I first purchased it. Others may say otherwise.
