Dimensions

Have searched forums and googled left and right, but cannot find a place where exact dimensions of various references can be found.
Eg. To determine originality, or to determine the extend of polish on a vintage or second hand specimen.

So for example on a 16610 Y serial, what would have been the exact weight of the watch head, and what would have been the exact measure of lug tips each side from new?

Anyone know where this info can be found?

I think your best bet is to just post the photos of the watch here and let some of the experts on here chime in. You'd be splitting hair with the weight. For example, how could you determine if the weight difference was due to polishing or scratches from normal wear? Also, I don't even know if either would be enough to register on a scale.

You're making it way more difficult on yourself.

Understand your point, and not that I have a specific watch for review here and now, but most of those posts “has this watch been -over- polished” seems to call for a lot of arbitrary opinions of various quality. Never exact measures.
Weight maybe more relevant to evaluate against fakes but an exact lug measure I could imagine useful evaluating polish history. Of course needing a tool to actually measure precisely...

At some point I was about to start such a thread with watches from my collection but the last time I did it I found it to be too imprecise.

For example, determining the bezel diameter depended on the exact calipers placement and also something even more arbitrary, the force applied when holding the ends. This would result in .02mm differences or even more. So really not a reliable way to evaluate a watch.

But a precise weight could be helpfull on fakes, at least on 98% of them.

Over polished does indeed attract arbitrary opinions but when you know what to look for you can tell when something has been covered up, overworked or changed out of spec.

Also I doubt very much wether exact dimensions or weights would work on older watches. Two watches may weight the same but someone could have butchered the finishing, lugs, crown guards etc.

People here will help put you off a clear massacre but plenty of people buy watches out of spec and are eternally happy.
