Panerai.
Why did Panerai values plummet?
Was it just, a fashion thing? Could the same happen to Rolex? |

I heard, they are pretty easy to fake and fakes are virtually impossibly to differentiate; that and small market.
Rolex slur is constant because most people only know a couple of brands. Rolex omega and might be tag. Panerai is pretty obscure. |

Simple they lost their DNA, became a marketing machine under Angelo went hard and fast quickly worked for a while but was only a sugar hit. Having endless limited editions too didn’t help. I liked them, costume jewellery for me now.

I thought they dropped some, but rebounding in the secondary market now. I don’t follow all models so I am not up-to-date. All I know is my two pams are holding value well. Lol The $6400 pam911 is now trading around $15k+ The $8900 pam690 is currently trading around $13k Most Panerai models never held their msrp anyways, unlike Rolex sports references. Rolex market is just crazy right now along with some pateks so no comparison Personally, not a fan of the recent models released by panerai’s new ceo and the direction the company is heading at this time. But that makes me value the older pams even more. Threads need pics... always. Lol

More recently the discovery of forged history and some of the less savoury references to times gone past and regimes that should not be celebrated.

It’s funny how the Rolex/PP/AP fans complain about not being able to get the watches they want at MSRP, and the Panerai fans complain about their aftermarket prices not appreciating like Rolex/PP/AP.
Can’t have it both ways. If you enjoy owning and wearing watches, Panerai is a great place to be nowadays. |

Values go up, they go down, they go sideways. Who cares. The watch and I love is on my wrist. That’s the only thing that matters to me.

Could you elaborate on the forged history part? Genuinely curious. I agree with you on the poor taste left in my mouth with the celebration of fascist regimes of the past... although I do adore my Pam 233.

Jose is forum member too. He investigates the murky world of fakes in many brands, but Rolex & Panerai are the main features. What you’ll learn is that much of the history of Panerai has been rewritten, and many of the so-called early ‘historical’ pieces are cobbled together if not completely faked.

This forum is hyper focused on Rolex, AP, Patek...so the general con census vibe is that the overall luxury watch market is in a complete frenzy because those brands are all the rage.
It is not. Hasn’t been for quite some time. Panerai is among those brands that are now soft in terms of market interest. This is not an overnight development. It started with gross violations of many luxury product tenets, most importantly over production and over pricing. Producing more overall references and more of each model, combined with raising retail prices is a toxic mix. It’s a classic mistake undisciplined luxury brands can make. They think...wow! We’re a hit! Let’s make a bunch more, open a bunch of new stores and charge more money for them ! People want Panerai...so let’s make sure they get one ! Well, the market hates that strategy and will punish brands who deploy it through disinterest. ‘ |

Thank the watch g@ds not all brands are Rolex or PP. One can actually source most Panerais. As it should be. That is, if one thinks of watches as luxury items to be enjoyed, not investments or market value or hype or Insta. |
