Guidance on recovering lost/stolen watch

Hi - first-time poster here. I am hoping for some guidance.

A year ago, I gave 2 Rolexes to a friend to put in home safe. A year later, friend doesn't have watches and has no memory of putting in safe.

I'm left with the empty box and serial number

I'd like to know if the watches have been sold since I gave to friend. Is there a way to look that info up using the serial number?

Thanks
Andrew

I think you'll have better luck finding a new "friend."

a reminder to use a safety deposit box; take pictures of things; and document things. A lifelong regret this happened. Beautiful watches, replaceable by $, but I want those specific watches w/ those serial numbers. TY for serving as therapist.

A fair warning. A safety deposit box is not FDIC insured and you are vulnerable going into and out of the bank.

Any semblance of a chance of recovering your watches begins and ends with a police report that involves your "friend."

Good luck.

Sorry to hear that this happened to you. Many of us have gone through the loss / theft / destruction of watches that held great sentimental value to us. In my case, my first Rolex, which was a gift from a deceased partner, was stolen from me back in 2013. Fortunately, I was insured and was able to replace the watch with the exact same current model.

If you file a police report (which may be challenging based on your circumstances as you'd kind of have to implicate your friend), you can file a report with Rolex USA and then, if the watch comes in, you'll find out about it and potentially have a chance to reclaim it eventually.

Best of luck to you.

Why does this story sound suspicious to me?

I'm confused, how do we know about a lady who is 78 years old, am I missing something?

The OP has added information to the profile of the "friend" by saying she is 78. That's how we know.

You can simply google search your serial number in the off chance it was listed somewhere online. Otherwise, as others have said, file police report, report serials as stolen to Rolex, post them up here so a future serial search might guide someone to this thread.

Post the references and serial numbers here, this way the thread would bring them up as stolen.

78 y/o?

Does she have a care-taker or children?

99% chance some bum child saw them, and took them and pawned them.

My guess "Her 45yo down on his luck for the past 27 years, Son"
