Playing the AD game again

I'm at it again guys, playing the AD games.

Last year I played the game and won a Sub 114060, the purchase of a Tudor 1926 was needed for this.

This time I'm after a Pepsi or the impossible Daytona, but I have a 10k jewellery purchase for the GF to pair with it this time.

I'm getting fairly muted / canned responses from my two favourite AD's both of which have come through for me in the past. I've been asking them directly if they could simply give me a time frame on the watch if I purchased the jewellery with them, but they've been unable to even mention that the watch is even a possibility.

The thing is, I can buy this same piece of jewellery at a non-AD for 4k less. So I'm not sure if it's worth spending the extra 4k to reinforce my relationship with one of the AD's.

Would love to hear from the veterans on which way to proceed in this case.

Tough situation. I think you just need to go with your gut towards the SA you think that can make it happen.

But i’d def buy the jewelry from a rolex AD to build that history regardless for future pieces

Yes this is what I'm thinking, it might be a good idea to buy it from an AD anyways.

I've been feeling them both out and I'm not getting any great gut feelings this time around, I may wait it out a bit lol.

A higher spend may be needed for one of these two pieces. A number of others may be ahead is the main problem. I'm sure any of the SA's would love the sale, but they're probably trying to be honest and realistic.

Sounds like 10k worth of jewelry isn't really much leverage these days. Unless you're in a position to spend tens of thousands on jewelry and/or non-Rolex watches, you're probably not buying enough 'relationship' to keep up with the so called VIPs.

I'm curious what they would say if you pointedly asked what the spending requirement would be to make either of the watches available. Their inability to offer any candid answer regarding time frame so far suggests to me you're not even close on spend but they don't want to to admit it if they think there's a chance you might still buy the jewelry.

If you really want the watch, spend an extra ~5k net and go grey market on the BLRO and get the same piece of jewelry from a non-AD. Then, take your GF into your AD while she's wearing said jewelry to have your new BLRO sized

Best of luck to you. I really hope you get the watch you want. If you’re buying the jewelry anyway I suppose it couldn’t hurt.

I guess I should be used to this by now, but, strangely, I’m not.
Good luck to you.

I’m not sure 10,000 is enough of a spend to get either of those two pieces where you live.

Doesn’t seem like the AD’s are willing to commit to you, why shell out an extra 4K on a hope? Lots of people on this site are willing to spend the money you earned, f’em

That’s disappointing.

I truly would have thought $10k would get the needle moving at least and allow for the discussion to begin... especially since you already have a relationship with them.

At this point, doesn’t hurt to explore what a new AD would say to this potential bundle. If they won’t play ball, can always return to your current AD and spend said $ and cross the fingers.

I was thinking exactly this. The situation must be quite dire if the 10k isn't even sparking any further dialogue. I will explore a few new AD's.

Yes this could definitely be it, the bar must be quite high at the moment.

I think if I asked them what the spend limit is they would deny that's how they work, they've been acting very much "by the book" so far with no hints.

I would spend the extra 5k, but isn't it more like 8k usd extra now? That wouldn't be work it for me at that point.

Ya I don't think I'll do it if I don't receive some kind of hopeful sign from one of them. Seems a tad ridiculous honestly.

A bundle would involve more spend ontop of the jewellery?

Don't do it. Just buy the Pepsi grey and move on! The fact is none of those SAs can guarantee you anything. They are all chicks in the director's nest trying to get the worm themselves.

I've always found that being very direct has gotten me the clearest answer. Let them know you can get the jewelry cheaper elsewhere, but that you also want to keep giving them your business...and that you also want a BLRO. See what they can do. There's no point is spending 4k extra if it doesn't help you out.

Maybe describe how you were able to get the Sub with the Tudor purchase. How did that conversation go? Obviously, you had some sort of inkling that you could get a Sub with buying a Tudor?

Another thought, how do the AD's allocate to the SA's? The Sub is definitely an easier win, but the Pepsi and Daytona are way more desirable. Perhaps a conversation with the manager could help too? It's definitely not easy, but let us know how it goes.

Thanks for this I needed to hear it, I haven't been direct at all so I'll give that shot. I don't think I'll be spending the extra 4k if I don't get some kind of hint.

Wow, you're right...I thought the grey price was still around $18k.

If they were to deny that's how they work yet refuse to answer how they sell what they do receive, I wouldn't want to give that AD more money anyway- at least be honest with people.

I registered a very strong desire to purchase specifically the 114060 with this AD. And then committed to buying the Tudor without hesitation because it was the only shop I could find the model anywhere anyways. Received the call for the 114060 literally one week after.

I tried to bundle it and they refused, but they followed through 1 week later which was weird.

If you would like to buy about 20k Tudors you will be offered the Pepsi next month by the AD in Beijing, China. For 10k, you can ask the Batman or Batgirl.

buy a pm piece like a gold DJ, DD etc. along with a SS daytona, that used to work in 2019, don't know about now.

Not sure how it works over there but to me it seems you need to spend way more money in this case.

Different AD different approach, just be bold and ask them how much should you spend. Don’t be fooled into the waiting list game.

In most cases going to grey dealer is the best route. They’re more honest than your typical rolex ad.

Dude bail now. The second you reach out to them and propose a bundle, they have you by the balls. They have the power and the upper hand now. Go grey.

it will be highly unlikely that you would acquire a Pepsi or especially a Daytona with those level of purchases.

I probably just won't buy them in that case, grey is completely not worth the premium IMO.

Playing the AD game again

In my opinion ADs are dumb. They should just list the the watches for market rate and be done with it.

Do you want a Daytona ? Is $30k done. Cut the grays ;)

Be careful as if your AD sells jewelry, they could end up losing their Rolex status.
