YachtMaster dilemma. Need help :)

Ok, I decided I want a new YM on oysterflex. I can buy the RG 40mm, or the WG 42 for the same price. Like the RG a touch more, but the WG looks better on my wrist (Flat and almost 8") Both from a local AD.

Trading in my TT Sub (116613LN) and getting what I paid for it, so that seems like a fair price.

Typically, I go with "Buy the one you like best", but it's a real tossup!

Buy the WG 42 since it looks better on your wrist.

Size vs aesthetics. Since you like the RG more, I would go with that as long is it doesn't look comically small on you. I own the RG fwiw, but my wrists are also a lot smaller than yours.

Rolex RG is a little too pink to my eye.

126655 (RG) is much better IMO. There is a very cool, almost sinister look with the WG, however I feel it is nothing special. Honestly go with the WG if it looks better on you wrist.

For me, the Everose YM40 on oysterflex was love at first sight. Just the right combination of luxury and stealthiness. Then I tried it on (years ago) and, to my eye and on my wrist, the oysterflex bracelet seemed too big/cumbersome compared to the watch. So I ended up having to admire it on other people’s wrists.

When the WG YM42 was released in 2019, I didn’t even bother to try it on because I was already biased against the oysterflex bracelet and the size increase seemed nonsensical.

Fast forward to a few months ago and I happened to be checking out some watches on 47th St. I spotted a WG YM42 and on a whim I asked to try it on. I couldn’t believe how great it looked and felt on my wrist! So after a few weeks of mulling it over I went to my AD and asked them to contact me when the next YM42 came in. A couple of weeks later I got the call. All I can say is that I think it’s an amazing piece.

While I initially preferred the matte dial of the Everose YM40, the lacquered dial of the YM42 is equally impressive. I also like the pure black and white theme of the YM42 and I find the slightly larger hour indices to be very legible and the cyclops date lens is less dominant and more integral to the layout of the dial. Most importantly, I prefer the extra stealthiness of the WG, which makes it more wearable (for me) for a wider variety of occasions. What’s also cool is that at 11.8mm thick, it’s much more balanced on the wrist than the 12.2mm thick Daytona on an oysterflex.

Lastly, I now think I understand why Rolex increased the size of the Submariner to 41mm. I believe Rolex will eventually offer the Sub on an oysterflex bracelet. And the oysterflex bracelet is aesthetically a better match with a slightly larger watch. For those who have not tried on the YM42 for whatever reason, I urge you to give it a try.

I really love the dial on the RG. Matte black with RED YachtMaster. It channels old submariner feels. Super class, super stealth. In an office setting though... gold is gold so... a lady can pull it off, I really don't know if it's cool for a guy.

Wearing my 42 today and love everything about it. Im 6'4" so the 42 fits me. RG is nice too, but I also prefer the stealth of the WG and white writing on lacquer

Personally I think the rose gold is more fitting for that model. The white gold is still great I just feel like the rose gold is the best variation of it.

Personally I'm more of a visual vs practical, so I would go with the RG

I think either is stunning. I personally own the RG and normally avoid PM pieces, but with OF, which I love I feel the RG is also understated...as soon as I tried one on I couldn’t get it out of my mind, so I ended up buying it. I actually wear it when I want to be under the radar...good luck as I don’t believe there is a wrong choice!

Tried both on at a grey dealer not too long ago. Wanted to like the RG but just not for me. The 42 was incredible! I loved the size, how it wears, pretty much everything about it! I'm wearing my SD43 on a rubberB now to try to convince myself that I don't need the YM42... It hasn't worked yet....

Thanks! I don't use it as a daily, though it's very comfortable and could be easily worn daily. I got it mostly for a summer fun watch for short sleeved evenings out and resort wear. I personally think of it as a great Miami watch. All I need now is the Yacht.

Depends your collection... I'd go white if you don't have one than get a rose after!

X2. The organic case design of the YM wears smaller so a 42mm will feel like a 41mm on the wrist.

I had the RG, and loved it until I didn’t. I lost money when I sold it. You might regret trading your Sub towards it.

YM42. I really like this watch. Probably my favorite PM Rolex ATM. Similar wrist size as the OP.

Of course we all know fit is everything, then looks. If it looks too small it's going to drive you crazy. I opted for the RG when faced with making a choice. BTW my wrist is 7 1/4. Good luck on your decision
