116500

Received Daytona from David SW and couldn’t be happier. He even provided me with an appraisal for my homeowners to have it covered. After a few pieces from two local ADs and countless conversations I had to come to terms with the fact that getting it at retail from an AD was never going to happen. To make it work I got rid of a 166610 date sub that I purchased a few years ago. I’m going to miss that watch and I found beauty in its simplicity. Down the road I plan to get one back. Here is the 116500 with my GMT.

Is it worth the price you paid? LOL

Serious question coming from someone that used to own both the white and black dials. To me these are worth nowhere near the $38k you would have had to pay. You should have just went White Gold.

To me, yes, but that is obviously subjective. I planned on downsizing to three watches, these being two of them. The daytona warranty card is dated 2020, the year my son was born. Also, white gold was too far above my budget for a wrist watch (by about $10-14K), so the steel was the move. I also thought about an AP RO, but again, my dial preference was out of my wrist watch budget.

To the OP. Funny I bought the same watch dated 2021 for my sons birth year. It’s much easier buying a modern birth year for someone else than buying one for myself. I’m happy with it, and glad you are.

Classy reply to a tactless post.

Congratulations OP, it’s a beautiful piece and it’s yours to enjoy. At least until you give it your son.

Congrats OP!! Beautiful and wonderful addition, looks amazing, you have great taste with those two pieces there

Everyone laments the grey market price when it comes to buying preowned, but then rejoices when they want to sell.

Why, is the $500 melt-value of the white gold watch suddenly worth the $38k?? Is it possible that the stainless steel is a better metal, more durable, less soft, and looks just as good?? Could it be that oysterflex strap simply doesn't look or feel as premium. Mind-boggling that the PM piece goes to the customer on a rubber strap and there's no option to replace it with an actual bracelet.

This. My biggest knock against the PM models on oysterflex. If I’m paying PM prices I want a full PM watch, not half.

I tend to agree with this. I had a YG Daytona on leather strap but kept eyeing PM Daytona’s on YG Oyster bracelets until I decided to buy mine anyway which at that time in 2000 was substantially more money.

Exactly how i feel as well. Feels like the oysterflex is just another way for Rolex to rip u off.

Couldn't one just as easily say that charging you $9,000 extra for only the gold bracelet links is just another way to rip you off? The OF models already come with the gold clasp.

I think he is jealous he can’t swing it himself.

Congrats OP gold you got the watch you wanted. Why wait if you don’t have too? You never know who will take off your boots.

Congratulations on getting the watch you wanted. I hope you enjoy the hell out of it!

And have fun ignoring anyone who starts talking about worth and value, or telling you what you should have bought instead. It’s awesome to decide what YOU value and what YOU want and then reward yourself.

I have the same combo also. The Daytona is a fantastic looking watch. I’m not a proponent of paying Gray prices but if this is piece you plan to keep and someday hand down to your son then the premium paid is peanuts over the course of your lifetime and hopefully your son’s. Good for you that you were able to come to the realization that retail was not in the cards and you were able to afford going Gray.
